I purchased my SSBF 40 about 8 months ago and so far I can tell you that I have been very happy with it. I have used it for a variety of things but the main purpose has been as a "finesse" setup for flathead fishing the local tailraces. I've handled flats up to 25lbs even in the heavy current and am confident I could handle bigger ones. So far the graphite body has held up well, which is surprising considering how tough I am on reels. (they bounce off rocks etc all the time)
My favorite feature is the handle. I wish I had that on all of my spinning reels.
(A quick hint: I had line twist issues right at first, but changing to a different brand mono seemed to fix it.)

GREAT REEL, EXCELLENT PRICE TOO

I purchased the SSBF 50 several years ago, put it through alot of abuse and this reel has not failed yet. I only use this for salt water fishing and have landed many fish. The only gripe that I have is that this model is no longer available. Hey CABELA'S could you please make this model again, as I think this is the best all around model when using braided line !

I purchased two of these reels in August of 2010, the smallest version and the mid-sized. Neither has been fished much but they were used in saltwater. The larger reel has always and is still working fine. However, the baitrunner drag on the smaller reel has frozen up and is non-functional. I also have the same reel bearing the Okuma brand name and have had no problems. I usually wash my equipment after using in saltwater so I don't think the problem is related to that. I've never gotten into a reel attempting to repair it so this may be my chance! All of these are made by Okuma and I have a number of their reels and have had no problem other than what's mentioned here.

I do a lot of surf fishing in new symrna beach F L. After only one seasons use the drag ,on the reel went. never really caught a real big fish with it, so i do not understand why it failed.would not recomend buying this reel
