Cabela's Salt Striker® 40 Three-Piece Spinning Travel Combo

From trout to tarpon and everything in between, our Salt Striker™ Inshore Rods offer lengths and actions that are proven to produce from Texas to the Carolinas. 100% high-modulus graphite construction reduces the overall weight of these rods and provides strength, sensitivity and optimum performance. To improve on these rods, we've outfitted them with Batson's new SS316 guides, made from high-grade stainless steel for better corrosion resistance. And we included premium cork grips for improved sensitivity. Actions are tailored for everything from popping corks with bait, finessing plastics and cranking plugs and topwater baits. Plus, there are models with the backbone and strength to land inshore monsters like tarpon, snook and permit. Just getting to your fishing destination can be half the battle, but you can make the trip a lot more convenient by toting these travel rods. They break down into three pieces for compact carry and storage. Includes Cordura® covered travel tube.

Salt Striker reels are built to withstand harsh saltwater environments. They have nine ball bearings, one roller bearing and a super-smooth drive. Instant anti-reverse for slack-free hooksets. An aluminum spool with a titanium lip extends casts. Hydro Shield™ multidisc front drag system adjusts fast and seals out debris. Titanium-plated ceramic line roller. Handle can switch to right- or left-handed retrieve.

Good enough to write a review
Date:
I just returned from my first fishing trip to Florida and one of my priorities upon returning was to write this review. I looked hard for a reasonably-priced saltwater travel rod and reel and am very happy I settled on the Salt Striker 40 reel/MH rod combo. I didn't get into any really big fish with it, but was happy with its action and performance for everything from pier fishing to pulling sheepshead away from the pilings while in a canoe, to finessing lures around the mangroves for snook. I think next time I'll team it up with a lighter rod/reel combo for ladyfish and specks. The case traveled great, fitting in every overhead bin on the planes; the rod was smooth and sturdy, and the reel was one of the smoothest I've ever used. I put 15# hi-vis SS line on it and was very pleased with it's durability and casting. I wish the reel had a spare spool and the bail was a little smoother, but otherwise it was a great choice, especially for the price.

Great combo for the price
Date:
Bought the mh version for inshore fishing in nc. Will use it up north for muskie and pike. Reel is excellent. Rod seems very sturdy for a three piece tho unfortunately haven't truly tested it on a big fish yet...the travel case is very nice and can easily hold two of these rods.

Salt Striker
Date:
I bought three of these for a recent trip to Belize. They are very good quality for a three piece rod. I got two heavy, and one medium. The only problem that I have is one of the heavy rods is a medium with a heavy label. The heavy one has double footed eyelets that make it a lot stiffer. I used it to catch a small tarpon with out any trouble. With the lighter ones I had no problem catching Barracuda and snappers. Two rods will fit in one tube, so that is a plus for air travel. The reels are over sized for the rods, but they preformed well.
