Everything you need to step up to the shore and start fishing in one rigged and ready kit. Includes a legendary Ugly Stik rod and your choice of Graphite 30 spinning reel or Synergy 10 spincaster, both pre-loaded with monofilament. (Spinning reel – 6-lb. test; Spincast – 10-lb. test) Rods are built using the durable Howald Process™ blank-through-handle construction with exclusive quick-taper Clear Tip® for extra sensitivity. bought two "ugly sticks" for my kids...they love them! they are high quality and very affordable...and if you've ever taken a kid fishing you would know how priceless it is. i would recommend these to both beginners and more advanced anglers.

Like some others that have posted here, I bought the kit to introduce my child to fishing. I figured it was worth paying a little extra for something that wouldn't quickly go out of fashion/favor (like a cartoon-themed rod), and that had the Shakespeare name behind it. I am glad I did. She was thrilled with it and as it turns out, so were her older cousins. It was well worth the price. Mind you, I was a little disappointed that the 64-piece tackle assortment didn't come in a convenient box as pictured and that the quality of the tackle is really quite poor.

Great for the price, our only issue was we had to put stronger line on it for the bigger fish. It was an easy fix.

I bought this for my young son to introduce him to fishing. I like these much better than the old cartoon character poles. I figure it's a lot more durable for a young, very rambunctious boy, and he won't be embarrassed to use it in front of his friends when he has outgrown the cartoon character pole. Great starter combo or for someone who is the occasional fisherman.
