The instruction manual for this down scan does not cover anything for this model and the quality of the down scan is very poor. You have to be moving for it to read and does not show fish. Would not recomend this to anybody.
I purchased this unit wanting to get the latest in technology to help me accurately mark fish and see those cool bottom and structure views advertised. Was waiting for a review but none were posted. Was debating between the Hummingbird 570 DI which boast this same new technology and went with the Lowrance. Installation was easy, replacing an existing trolling motor mounted Eagle unit. The operating instructions show many features such as Fish ID, sensitivity control, colorline control, fishing mode and other things which are not on this unit. First time out found it full of clutter and had to turn the contrast adjustment all the way down. Wasn't sure if this was reducing the sensitivity and was missing fish since there is no sensitivity control. Used it a few more times and got more familiar with it but wasn't sure what fish looked like since it doesn't have fish ID and doesn't mark with the traditional 'arch."
Called Lowrance and confirmed some (lots) of the features in the operating manual are not on this unit and the manual was designed to cover several of their models. They said marked fish should look like "blobs" and there is no sensitivity control. They said the DSI technology does not need sensitivity control. Hooked a decent fish and ran it under the transducer and it marked as a blob. I found sitting fish mark as a horizontal line with a very slight arch at the ends. Wish this latest technology would convert this to fish ID. The screen is just okay to see in bright sunlight and my old Eagle was easier to see. Very little adjustment control over the screen in bright sun. The on-screen menu is very small to read for us far-sighted folks. Regarding the cool pictures of structures, Lowrance said it will only show true features as advertised when the unit is moving several MPH over the structure. I don't remember ever seeing any structures while moving that looked like the advertised pictures. It does offer better bottom detail than my old unit but nothing spectacular as I was hoping for. On the positive side, after understanding how to interpret fish, I marked and caught marked fish so I trust this unit, however, my old Eagle did that too. I fish in shallow water (less than 20') so the dual transducer feature had little value but it would probably be beneficial in deeper water. The instruction manual should explain at least how fish should look and other basic info specific to DSI technology. Overall. nothing special about this unit but perhaps my expectations were set too high. I gave it a no recommendation only because of the price and feel you can get the same performance from units costing less.
