Best smoker for the money
Date:
I bought my Smokette 10 years ago after going through many cheap charcoal, electric, and 1 gas smokers. Had I just opted for the Smokette right off the bat I would have been money ahead. It is very economical to use and clean up is a snap. I also purchased the stand and cover when I purchased my Smokette.
The only complaint I ever had was when I smoked 30 lbs of wings I’d have to reload it a couple of times.
After 8 years of use I moved up to an AmeriQue and sold my Smokette for what I paid for it, and it is still smoking away. Try that with a Bradley or a Master Craft, if they are still working

Nine months in...
Date:
I've had my smokette for 9 months now. Before buying one of these smoker/cookers, ask yourself one very important question. What am I going to make with this smoker? If you're into barbeque, buy a Cookshack smoker. However, if you are going to mostly make jerky or sausage, buy something else. These smokers are too hot to make good sausage and for some unknown reason, it takes longer to do a batch of sausage in this hotter smoker. I've made several hundred pounds of really good sausage over the last 5 years, and I can't duplicate my efforts in this smoker. Ribs, bacon, pork butts are all very good, but my sausage and jerky don't pass muster out of this smoker. I've also recently had a problem with the temperature probe always registering "HI" instead of a temperature. I need to call customer service to see what they say.

Cookshack Smokette - Great Purchase
Date:
This is one impressive smoker! I got the black Smokette model 20 with the stainless top and let me tell you, it is built like a safe! Looking at the workmanship, I have no concerns about rusting or long-term durability. I’ll probably be retired by the time this thing wears out. When I first started looking at smokers, it seemed like a lot of other brands were/are poorly constructed, basically college dorm room refrigerators with heating elements slapped inside of them, lots of plastic, cheap controls, and flimsy grills. Or they were made of glorified aluminum foil or miscellaneous Chinese metal. Not acceptable to me when you have to throw down a few C-Notes to the cashier on the way out of the smoker store! I also saw a lot of reviews where people complained about underpowered heating elements and lack of temperature control. To avoid that whole mess, I got a 750W element in my Cookshack with insulated walls. The Smokette heats up with authority and holds temp amazingly well. The first night I used my smoker, the outdoor temps were in the 30’s. The Smokette will not get hot to the touch or burn the underneath side of your deck. It stays cool on the exterior during operation. It has a roomy interior, two 14” x 18” shelves, with lots of space to smoke a turkey or plenty of ribs. The first thing I smoked was a big Steelhead Salmon fillet. Man! Did it taste good! One thing to note and you will not find it in the manual, the controller is programmed to heat for the first 20 minutes of the cycle to get the wood smoldering, so if you accidentally turn it off, then back on when it is near your desired smoking temperature, (like I did), you wont be able to figure out why it keeps heating up. If this happens, just open the door, after 20 minutes it will control right on the money. The grease pan is just a disposable that sits freely on the ground underneath. For such a nice smoker, it would be nice if there was a built in slide out tray. Glad I bought the Cookshack, you can’t go wrong with it. Happy smok’n!

Cookshack Smoker
Date:
This smoker is just phenomenal. We had never smoked baby back ribs until we purchased this unit from Cabela's. Now, we smoke baby back ribs and they are better than any baby back ribs we have ever eaten in any restaurant. We recently smoked two racks and brought them to a party...they disappeared in minutes. Cook them at 225 F for about 4 - 5 hours with your favorite rub. The Cookshack rub is very good. The probe works great for roasts. Get the stainless model for sure. Use heavy duty aluminum foil to coat the floor of the unit and the plate above the heating element each time you use it. Cleanup will be easy. My only complaint is that the inside shelves should be heavier and of stainless steel for such a fine smoker or at least heavier gage shelves should be an option. The shelves should be cleaned immediately after use or they will rust. The unit does come with two shelves so you can be cleaning one and using the other. Thanks Cabelas for carrying such fine equipment. And if my kids are reading this, give me Cabela's gift certificates for Christmas.
