Springfield M1A™ Rifles

Springfield’s M1A traces its roots to the M14, adopted by the U.S. military in the late 1950s. That legacy of distinguished service continues today. Cabela’s offers three modern versions of the venerable M1A that blend all the fine attributes of this firearm’s past with the latest technology.

  • M1A Scout Squad™ – Fast becoming a law enforcement favorite, it has a forward-mounted optical sight base. Sights mounted forward in a scout-rifle configuration vastly improve target acquisition and provide unobstructed access to the receiver mechanism. The quick-handling 18" barrel has six-groove rifling with a 1-in-11" rate of twist. The two-stage military trigger is factory set at 5-6 lbs. The front sight is a national match .062" military post, and the rear sight is a military aperture sight adjustable for windage and elevation. Also has a proprietary muzzle stabilizer and black synthetic stock. 10-round parkerized magazine included.
  • SOCOM 16 – This version of the venerable M1A can be an effective close-quarters defense rifle or just a great "ranch gun." It has the minimum barrel length allowed for a rifle by federal law with six-groove rifling with a 1-in-11" rate of twist. Its two-stage military trigger is factory set at 5-6 lbs. The front post sight has a tritium insert for shooting in low light. The ghost-ring rear sight adjusts for windage and elevation. It has a proprietary muzzle brake, and a forward-mounted scope base that’s ideal for electronic sights or other accessories. 10-round parkerized magazine included.

    I got the M1A Scout Squad rifle. I liked the intermediate barrel length over the other options. I dropped a tri-rail on it to mount some other goodies. Recently put an EOTech EXP3-2 HWS up front along with a bipod. The setup provided sub 1 MOA groups using the inexpensive Cabela's Herters ammo. A bit heavy, but a really good-shooting rifle. Can't wait to get down to King Ranch for some hunting this year!

    My favorite rifle is my M1A loaded 9822.
    By far the most accurate rifle out of the box. .75 MOA
    You get what you pay for. I shoot with a Zeiss scope and have the gen 4 scope mount.

    This gun will shoot both nato 7.62 and .308. the only thing you are not supposed to shoot out of this gun (this is according to Springfield) is the heavy 180gr hunting loads.
    I have personally shot winchester .308 150gr silver tips with out any troubles - i have shoot 250 rounds so far. I haven't had any troubles with the softer primers in hunting loads, but i don't rapid fire my gun. i have also shot close to 500 rounds of 147gr 7.62 nato ammunition. I haven't tried to shoot anything heavier than 150gr, but from what Springfield told me and what i have read on the internet I am confident the gun will handle 175gr loads and under with out any problem.
    The match M1A that i purchased is easily making 1.5 inch patterns at 100 yards and i am sure that the groups would be tighter if the rifle was in the hands of a better shooter.
    The M1A loaded is easily my favorite gun in my collection.

    This is the best all around rifle any person can buy. The reason for the 4 star rating, (the price) otherwise I would have given it a 5. Sometimes it is the price you have to pay for quality.
    I purchased this rifle for the reputation of reliability, quality, availability of ammo, and accuracy. I also wanted a rifle that would shoot 1/2 moa groups.
    I have never heard or read of any person who owns an M1A having a jam in any condition (snow, dirt, sand, ammo). The gas piston keeps the action a lot cleaner and cooler then a AR 10. Big plus. Reliability.
    I reload and have read reviews that this rifle can produce 1/2 inch groups at 100 yarsd with quality bullets and under and inch with factory ammo. This is great for a semi auto.
    I have shot Federal, Brown Bear, Silver Bear and have never had any problems. Finding ammo is easy and the russian ammo is cheaper then what I can reload.
    The last thing, the rifle weights a little under 10 pounds unloaded. There is a premium air gauged medium weight match grade barral which balances the rifle nicely. Ease of breakdown is very simple.
