a real winner
Date:
I have both in sst & cro moly. First off it is not a sniper rifle so do not expect a cold bore shot. These babies are made to shoot high volume and maintain accuracy. I ran almost 60 rounds straight with about a five second interval between shots at 100 yards and the barrel was HOT giving off a heat mirage but it maintained the shots at around 1 1/2 moa. Follow the break in procedure, keep it lubed and run a few patched down the barrel every 20 rounds and you will not be disappointed. And most important, it is a really fun gun. Sure beats all the range rats with their scoped 16" barreled AR's trying to achieve sub moa. The fit and function of this rifle is TIGHT and the two stage trigger will help the shot but I replaced mine with Jewells.

Bushmaster Varminter
Date:
What a rifle, shoots like a dream, two stage trigger is nice, balance is great, extremely accurate.
Cant say enough about the Varminter model, it is extremely accurate, even with 5.56 M193 ammo. Throw in quality ammo and you have better then most bolt action results.
Cant go wrong with this one.

Nice Rifle
Date:
Sorry for the long post, but I will try to explain the best I can because I have shot lots of the "black guns".
I have owned this rifle for about 8 years and can testify to it. This rifle has been the most reliable gun that I have owned to date and is capable of shooting a gnats you know what from long distance. I have never had any issue of heat/jamming/loading or anything. To be honest, I used it to whitetail hunt for years. I shoot Winchester soft point 64 grain and it will take a deer at 200 yards all day. I did upgrade to a DPMS LR308T for whitetail a couple years ago just for the extra thump at longer distance and haven't looked back, but would still not be worried to take it out of the safe again for that. I also have a 7mm and didn't fall in love with it for whitetail because it tears up too much sausage on quartering shots.
It is also a wonderful rifle for any varmint hunting and the .223 is a great round for it. When I spend $1,000 plus on a rifle I like to stick with the tried and true calibers so I will never have to worry about finding ammo. Military calibers are nice because you could be anywhere in the world and get ammo for them......223/.308/.45/9mm etc. It is usually cheaper and available in bulk. I do stay away from the steel/nickel/laquered case ammo. It will tear your gun up if you shoot a lot.
I like the flat top AR platform guns because I like to use optics. The mounting bases on the Bushmasters are a nice height too. Others need some tweaking in order to keep your scope/red dot as close to the barrel as you can and still be able to access the action.
I have shot at least 3000 rds through it and it has always performed. Great gun, very low recoil for easy follow up shots at a distance through a high powered scope, and just plain fun.
