Still not quite big enough
Date:
The new green model is a great improvement over the old one shown in the picture but it still should be a little wider. A 10-11" black crappie with good shoulders is too tall to get his nose down to the bottom. If you aren't paying attention it will measure longer than it really is. Otherwise it's a great tool and easy to use. It's calibrated to 13" and I'd like it to be able to actually measure a 13" black crappie. White crappies are usually not a problem.

Best Crappie Tool To have IN Your Boat
Date:
This is handier than a pocket on your shirt. Just drop the crappie in, it closes his mouth. Pinch the tail toward center and read the measurement. My state has a 10" Min. length.
With this tool, I always know I am legal. There is no hassle with a ruler or other measuring device. It's so darn easy and good, I'd pay almost double the price But don't tell Cabela's.
Measure, drop your crappie in the live well, and GET BACK TO FISHING.
