Light duty

The pole saw with clippers is very handy opening up shooting lanes from a newly hung stand. The tool was very sharp and works great on the 1/4 to half inch stuff but anything thicker than that and you're in trouble.

poor quality

I have bought not one but two of these set ups and both broke in the same area where you attach each section. It seems they are not strong enough for repeated use. Dont get me wrong it worked great the few times I got to use it and the saw is super sharp and holds a great edge but the pole system needs to be re-designed or strengthened

Waste of Money!!

Bought this to trim limbs for shooting lanes. The extension does not extend far enough, and after a few uses, it does not stay in place once extended. I use duct tape to keep it fully extended.

GERBER TREE PRUNER/SAW
Date:
I bought the kit last year so I have two seasons of use. It's not the heavy duty tree pruner you can buy from the local hardware store- but that's not its intended application. It performs well enough as a compact/convenient tool if you keep that in mind. I've used the pruner jaws on limbs/sapplings(pine/maple) up to about 3/4" and it works ok. It works on somewhat larger cuts if you start on one side and finish it off cutting from the other side. The saw works but the pole limits the amount of pressure you can apply because its weak and bends when fully extended. Obviously, the shorter the pole the stronger it is and I adjust the length as I use it. Cabelas offers a compact "T" handled/double edged saw and I use that along with the Greber pruner. This combination works well enough for me and I am satisfied with the performance. I also bought the 2' extension for the pruner and it has been useful. The kit is compact and is definitely a big plus when I pack in a tree stand. If there are limbs and sapplings too big or out of reach for it, I make a special trip with the hardware store pruner.
