Wow!
Date:
I cannot say enough for this tool. I picked this up in 2008 and abused it for over 3 years before it gave up the ghost. I used this machete for back country backpacking and canoeing. I broke it by using it to split wood. I would sink it into a log and pound it through with the back of a hatchet. It cut through 6 inch trees in under a minute. I had my handle wrapped in 550 cord and it was perfect. When I first bought it, I tested it by cutting through a 2x4, it took 2 swings. I cleared green saplings out of a shooting lane with ease, it can cut through a wrist sized sapling in one swing. I will be buying another and I'll see how long it lasts if I refrain from using it as a splitting maul.

Nice tool
Date:
This is a nice machete, only real concern is that the handle can be a bit slippery, especially when wet, but followed the advice of a previous reviewer and taped up the handle, no more problems.

Gerber Brush Thinner Machete

This thing is incredible. I use it to maintain roads on my deer lease outside Midland, TX. Mesquite grows quickly and this thing mows it down. It rarely takes more than one swing even on thick branches. If I'm making shooting lanes, it quickly makes short work of the mesquite. I lost the first one I owned, bought a cheaper traditional machete, and the difference is night and day. You have to hack away at the branches over and over with a traditional sword shaped machete. So I ponied up and bought this one again--worth every penny. They improved the handle, it's now made of durable rubber--feels really good to hold--the old one was hard plastic. The website still shows the hard plastic handle--but when I ordered it in Nov '11 it came with the rubber handle. The sheath is good quality and durable--very easy to get the machete in and out.

This machete is a very usefull tool in the woods for clearing out branch's and little trees....i used my brother in-laws when i put up my lean to stand and desided to go and buy one..... went to the local cabelas and found something better... i found one identical to the one im writeing a review on but the one i bought was the only one left and it had the gator rubber grip that gerber knives have....there is absolutely NO SLIPPING out my hand with the one with the gator grip... i would highly recomend either machete but i would deff. look for the one with the gator grip....
