I bought the 3lb stuffer yesterday to be an improvement over my Kitchen aid unit, or so I thought. More meat blows past the plunger than goes into the casing, and I had to push down so hard with my hand against my shoulder that I have a bruse this morning from just 5lbs of meat, and that took more than an hour and a half. I'm going to try and get my money back. Sorry, but I can't recommend this to anyone.
More meat blows back around the stuffing piston than goes into the sausage casing. Doesn't matter how much water I add to the sausage it still blows back and I have to restuff the meat into the stuffer by hand and potentially introducing more harmful bacteria each time I have to handle the meat. It appears that an additional seal was added to the unit I bought, but it is still not a tight enough seal. I can make sausage with it, but it is really messy work with all the blowback. The casting is obviously not uniform and is allowing the blowback. I would take back but I don't have the box or receipt and I bought over a year ago and just now got to trying it out.
The mixture kept blowing past the piston seal. I ended up tossing out a couple pounds of sausage mixture from frustration. The spicy snack sticks came out awesome though. I sent it back and purchased the commercial vertical stuffer.
I find this product of poor quality. The seal is very poor, allowing the meat to squeeze past and it is very hard to use especially if alone. Perhaps if it was made in the USA it might be better.
