There's nothing like fleeing prey to bring out the true predatory instincts and that's what this crab-imitating fly does so well. Per each.
Sizes: 2, 4, 6.
There is stretch of small flats that are just off the coast of Belize, 60 to 90 minutes boat ride in calm waters that makes up some of the best feeding grounds for permit in the world. Permit on a fly rod is not impossible, it just seem that way. Their diet is mostly crustaceans with small crabs being their favor. The Cabela's Cathy Fleeing Crab is great likeness to the real thing but you have to learn how to strip it. A short fast strip jumps the crab too high and spooks these fish however a short slow strip gives great life to this fly and draws fish to feed... now all you have to do is know when it feeds, strip strike it without lifting the rod, manage the line off the flats between the coral heads then climb into the boat to fight the fish to the hand in 60 to 120 feet of water... a 9 weight rod is not too big. Good luck!
