Cabela's LSi Spey and Switch Rods

    • Proprietary multidirectional graphite matrix
    • Built specifically for switch and spey techniques
    • Maximum long-range, big-water potential
We’ve taken our all-around most versatile fly rod series, the LST, and made it even better. Improvements include greater durability and a smoother action, thanks to the integration of a proprietary multidirectional graphite matrix. Fish these Line Speed Improved (LSi) rods and you’ll enjoy greater core strength to absorb the fight right out of aggressive fish. The Spey and Switch rods extend the all-around performance of the LSi series for maximum long-range, big-water potential. Ideal for use as boat rods or anywhere you need more rod, the switch models can be cast using two hands like a traditional spey rod or with one hand. Rod handles are designed for switch- and spey-rod techniques. The modified design further enhances the versatility and value that made the originals popular. Built on a high-modulus blank platform, the rods live up to their Line Speed lineage with lightweight fast actions ready to precisely zip line to all targets, near and far. Alignment dots for easy assembly. AAA-grade cork handles. Lightweight aluminum reel seats. Each rod includes a rod tube and rod sock. 25-year limited warranty.

Nice Rods
Date:
Overall these are great rods. I use them for spey casting with Rio Scandi Short Versitip heads. The 11' 7 wt. is a great rod as is the 10'6" 5 wt and 12'4" 8wt. I had the 11'3" 6 wt. which just didn't fit in with the others. The 6 wt. was 3 piece rather than 4 and waaaaaayyyyyy tooooooo slow, real full flex. Perhaps a bit too much. This rod might need some design rework. The others though, the 5, 7, and 8 wts are dynamite (5 stars!) I only placed 4 stars because of the 6 wt realizing that is a very subjective perception.

Great Spey/Switch rods
Date:
Have two speys and two switches from the LSi lineup, with one spey and one switch seeing extensive use since their introduction.
Thus far I've been very satisfied with series overall performance to value and durability, with the 12'6" 7 weight spey fishing as good or better than rods priced three times it's price.
Four stars were given the LSi S/S's due only to slight modifications needed, which would benefit performance, comfort and sales.
Spey rods should have longer fore grips along with countoured reduction in diameter on both rear and fore grips. (Slightly larger yet mirroring switch rod handle shape.)
Switch rods should be fitted with same snake guides found on the speys.
Change to five star rating with these minor adjustments made.

Switchtastic
Date:
I have the 11'6" 8wt. After trying to properly line the Traditions II 11' 8wt for over a year and being happy with that rod...probably why it was discontinued in ledd than a year... This rod is a whole new world! I casted a Z-Acess the week before mine came in from backorder and there are not many differences. Time will tell though (being that it has only been pond casted...I will post later about river fishing). I really like the extra 6". As for the blank here is my understanding of how it performs... The rod flexes deep allowing you to feel when the D-Loop properly loads the rod. Unlike other rods that deep this rod recovers very quickly allowing for a smoother and more responsive cast/line control. As compared to the rod mentioned earlier this rod casts twice as far and requires less effort. I am not two handed casting pro, but this rod performs all of the casts regularly used with both a skagit and scandi short versi. (keep in mind that I have only pond casted this, but compared to the Trad.II in the same situations and lines to is a difference worth giving a chance...especially for the PRICE!
