  • Generation 5 technology is lighter, stronger, easier to cast
  • Advanced Fiber Technology creates more responsive graphite
  • New taper designs with overall better performance
With the creation of the Z-Axis, Sage introduces a fly-rod blank that is significantly lighter, stronger and easier to cast for anglers of all skill levels. Sage's latest Generation 5 (G5) Technology is marked by improvements to the entire Z-Axis rod-blank building process. Proprietary software was used to analyze and evaluate performance requirements and to determine materials to eliminate. Additional advancements in Aligned Fiber Technology are replacing traditional glass-hoop fibers with lighter, more responsive graphite. This forced Sage to create new construction techniques to align and compress the rods for maximum strength. The results are new tapered designs for each rod blank, improved line feel, stronger tip, and better overall performance.

Sage Z-Axis

Though I have not caught any fish with this ros, I have spent some time casting it. Properly built it shines as a very light fast action rod. it is responsive and handles long lines well. The ease in which this rod delivers is amazing

Great blank - have not fished it yet though
Date:
To my surprise the blank was marked with white dots indicating Sages recommended alignment points. Sage recommends aligning the rod sections to achieve the 'straightest' rod disregarding the spine of the rod. I contacted the factory and learned Sage has tested this method and stands behind it. Of course the builder is free to build the rod anyway he/she wants, the dots rub off pretty easily. Out of curiosity, I spined the rod anyway and, to my surprise, discovered the white dots not only ensured a perfectly straight rod, but the dots also followed the 'back' of the spine perfectly so I started building the rod with the guides opposite of the dots.
My primary bonefish rod is an 8wt Sage RPLXi I bought about 4 years ago. It's awesome. This new rod is intended as a backup rod and for use on less windy days. I also wanted to try to build a rod lighter than Sages 'competition' claims they can provide. We'll see!
I haven\u2019t fished the rod yet, so I can't give it 5 stars. I'll try to update this post after some bonefishing with it next month.
