These scopes feature the Leupold Custom Dial System™ (CDS), the first and only custom bullet-drop compensation dial system. The CDS has all the precision and reliability competition shooters require, with reduced bulk and easy handling for the field. Just adjust the turrets for the desired range and squeeze the trigger – it's that easy. Additional turrets for calibers not similar to .270 Win. ballistics are available from Leupold. Xtended Twilight™ lens technology targets and amplifies the light wavelengths most commonly found in near-dark conditions. VX-3 scopes have a wide field of view, lockable fast-focus eyepieces with noncritical eye relief and rugged construction for long-term reliability. Their precisely machined housing and components are precision-fitted for rock-solid structural integrity. All are charged with second generation argon/krypton gas for complete waterproof reliability and thermal shock immunity that's guaranteed for life. Edge-blackened lenses improve resolution and contrast by cutting diffusion and reducing glare. Abrasion-resistant Diamondcoat 2™ external lens coating provides long-lasting clarity and greater light transmission. Precision twin-spring erector with cryogenically treated adjustments for pinpoint long-distance accuracy. CDS WORKS GREAT

Mounted on my Browning 270 WSM. Leupold had a great deal to get two dials and I got 1 for 130 gr qnd 1 for my 140 gr handloads. Both worked great when sighting in. I used the 130 gr reloads on a Wyoming Antelope hunt last fall. I had a shot at approximately 300 yards. Dialed it at 3 and took the shot. Worked as advertised.

Excellent Scope and Well Worth The Money

I have 3 leupold rifle scopes now after purchasing this one. I put this scope on a Browning .300 wsm for elk hunting out west. It works perfectly, the cds dial is a plus and the glass is clear like always on a leupold. No complaints on my end as the lifetime warranty and solid craftsmanship are always worth the price when dealing with a rifle scope.

VX-3 CDS 3.5-10x50 slipping quality control?

First the good: The optics are great (very clear). The scope is lightweight, and compact.
Now the bad: Quality control (windage dial)
I did a lot of research before picking up a VX-3CDS 3.5-40x50. After handling a few different scopes in the store I thought this was the scope for me. While bore sighting I noticed that the windage dial had a little slop. (You could turn it about 3 clicks with out it clicking) It was confirmed at the range when zeroing in that the scope had problems. Went to Cabelas and swapped out the defective for a new one. Once opened noticed that the new scope still had some slop on the windage dial (but not as much as the first). I confirmed this at the range when the scope would not hold zero. Once again to Cabelas and had an associate compare my return and the display model and confirm that there was a big difference in the quality between the windage dials. I was very surprised to have the same issue on both scopes. I returned the scope and decided not to go with another Leupold. I would think that their quality control would have caught it. Guess not. Cabelas was terrific to deal with during the entire ordeal, and my new non-Leupold scope is fantastic.

I recently had a custom long range rifle built. I ordered the 4x14x40 with the cds to top it off. After finishing the rifle and sending leupold my exact load info i recieved my turret. I have tested the turret from 300 yds which is my zero point out to 900 yds which is my max available. All ranges the elevation was perfect. I did multiple test to verify repeatability and the scope was flawless. I would highly recommend this scope.
