Meets the muzzleloading firearm criteria and legal requirements for black-powder seasons in Oregon, Washington and Idaho. The new .50-caliber Thompson/Center Northwest Explorer™ provides hunters with an ideal trophy-bagging tool. It uses a No. 11 percussion cap ignition system that features an exposed nipple in the breech along with a patented hammer and trigger mechanism for quick, safe operation. The rifle’s 28" barrel has a 1-in-48" twist and is optimized to use both patched round balls and conical bullets. The dropping-block-action breech is opened by a lever on the trigger guard, which provides for quick and convenient access for priming and cleaning. An adjustable, metal rear sight and a beaded, ramp front sight aid shot placement. T/C’s patented Quick Load Accurizor® (QLA) muzzle system incorporates a false muzzle design into the end of the barrel. QLA aligns the bullet quickly and correctly in the barrel to enhance accuracy and saves precious time reloading. The rugged, all-weather black or camo Monte Carlo-style stock has a checkered grip, 14" length-of-pull and a ventilated recoil pad. Solid-aluminum ramrod. Choose either a blued barrel or Weather Shield® corrosion-resistant finish. Lifetime manufacturer’s warranty. Made in USA.

Old School Omega
Date:
This is simply an Omega that shoots "old school" patched round balls and Maxi-balls like the TC Hawken.
Mine groups 370 grn. Maxi-balls into an inch and a quarter at fifty yards with 80 grn. of powder.
Don't plan on changing anything without going to a gunsmith, though.
The barrel is NOT drilled and tapped for any kind of scope mounts or a receiver sight.
A musket cap nipple is too long to let the action close.
The trigger assembly/breech block pins are permanently pressed into place, so they cannot be removed from the barrel for dunking the barrel in hot soapy water during cleaning.
A regular Omega has removable pins held in place by set screws.
In spite of all this, I still think the rifle is fine for what it is designed for. All that swabbing between shots for expensive sabots is just too much hassle for me!!
