This is an eight-hour non-shooting course that teaches students the basic knowledge, skills, and explains the attitude necessary for the safe gun handling and storage of firearms and ammunition in the home. Students are taught the NRA’s three rules for safe gun handling; primary causes of firearms accidents; firearm parts; how to unload certain action types; ammunition components; cleaning; care; safe storage of firearms in the home; and the benefits of becoming an active participant in the shooting sports. Students will receive the NRA Home Firearms Safety handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Basic Firearms Training brochure, course completion certificate. (Lesson Plan 6-90, reprint 12-08). This is a “Hands On” learning is a great way to learn about becoming a Registered Maine Guide. You have a vast amount of knowledge within you, and our school is designed to make you a Master of what you already know, along with what we have to teach. The two become intertwined making you one of Maine’s most respected Guides. You will learn about canoe strokes, river rescue, done right on the water. We will teach you about rods, reels, flies and fly casting. You’ll learn to cook in the outdoors over an open fire, using a reflector oven and other means of cooking. Map and compass courses are started with desk work, and then move to the woods for hands on practical techniques. Search and Rescue techniques are highly concentrated on, along with the safety of your client. You will learn about trip preparation and planning, and much more. We will help you learn all aspects of becoming a Hunting, Fishing and Recreational guide through the process of our “Hands On” Registered Maine Guide Program. Fly out via Float Plane with Katahdin Air from Millinocket and into Katahdin Lake Wilderness Camps on Sunday, Classroom and Outdoor education for the week, and then return to Millinocket on Friday. Cabela’s is proud to provide support for area charities and conservation partners. Due to the large volume of requests received, we have an established policy for all donations. Our retail program supports non profit 501(C ) (3) organizations directly related to the outdoors and are located within 100 miles of the Scarborough store. All requests must be MAILED on official letterhead of the beneficiary at least forty-five days prior to the event date. Requests can be mailed to:
