Nikon knows this, and that's why they have come out with this Retractable Rangefinder Tether. It'll keep your rangefinder close at hand when you need it and silently out of the way when you don't. Works for just about any rangefinder or other small gear and is highly adaptable for other applications. Simply thread the split-ring through the tab-loop and your'e good to go. Clip the opposite end to your shirt, jacket or vest and go.
