Purchased these because I wanted something simple and easy to use, which they are. The second time I used these radios when out hunting, one of the radio's quit working. I took them back to Cadela's and upgraded.
I received this radio (came set of 2 w/charger) as a gift. Radio has poor reception and output. Used at a distance of 3/4 mile and I could barely hear my partner. 20 plus miles...Really?? No backlight, no gain knob and the radio has static most of the time because of this. Cheap plastic too. If you need a serious radio, this IS NOT it. Gave them to neighborhood kids to play with.....
Charged them up, set them to hi-power, gave one to my girlfriend and started walking away with the other. Made it maybe 1/20th of a mile before it went garbled and staticy, at about 1/10th of a mile it wasn't sending or receiving a single thing. I know the range they advertise on two-way radios is only in super ideal conditions that no one could ever hope to see, but I'd like to think that I could at least make it half a mile away before things start to go fuzzy. Mind you, I was testing it in a relatively open and clear area too. The signal did not have much in the way to block it. I'm bringing these back tomorrow, and if you're considering them then I recommend you keep looking for something better.
