works well, good for the price
Date:
They have worked well so far.
I did notice the voice isn't as loud as some other radios, but turning on WHISPER helps this by increasing mic gain.
At the end of each transmission there is a fairly loud static burst. Also these radios do not have an adjustable squelch, but you could turn on Monitor if you are at the edge of the range and it cuts out.
Also if you are going to use with another brand of FRS/GMRS radios, stick to channels 1-22. Channels 23-50 are actually not additional frequencies, they just re-use channels 1-22 with various privacy or dcs codes applied. That is why the manual does not list the frequencies for channels 23-50.
This chart describes the setup of 23-50.

I also had a problem getting them to work with other brands. I studdied the users manual and you need to make sure that all are on same frequency (MHz) and (HZ) and privacy code. No problem after that

Not even 2 miles
Date:
Wouln't reach even 2 miles in flat South Jersey!
Animal calls are cool, but they are followed by a HISS, which negates the whole idea. In fact, every voice transmission is followed by the same "HISS". Would probably be OK in vibrate mode between deer stands on a small property. Cabelas great return policy will be acted upon today.

Exceeded My Expectations
Date:
I have gone through A LOT of 2 Ways and all have failed me until now. The range is very good, the first thing we do when we get new radios is test the range and clarity.
1st. I went to the top of our mountain and my wife drove down to her work place which is 12 miles away. Granted there was little obstruction we could talk just fine and could understand one another as if we were just right next to each other. We live in the mountains and they work well through trees and small hills well. You just need to make sure to hold the call button in for a second or two before talking through thick forest to ensure the signal goes through.
2nd. We use them for hunting and the silent talk is great, my wife had two does in her site and unknowingly I tried talking to her and she said that the deer didn't notice. They don't work well with other makes of radios. When we hunt we ALL stay connected in case somebody needs help tracking or dragging. That being said when there are other radios that you want to talk with, you ALL need to be on channel 1 and that is not always good due to other parties have radios that have an automatic Roger Beep and other parties like to carry on conversations with each other and can get annoying.
3rd. I cannot figure out all of the settings, the description says that there are NOAA channels.... I cannot find them.
4th. The belt clip is awesome, when we hike we don't always stay on trails, we bushwack a lot and the radios always stay on even if we are running or climbing.
5th. I have not fully tested the waterproof capabilities of them, but I have been out in downpours and no condensation has made it behind the screen or battery compartment.
6th. The boom mics are not that great, they are uncomfortable and don't fit that well. However if you wear them under a helmet with face shield and put them on VOX, they work well while riding ATV's and staying connected without stopping every 5 minutes to talk. I have not tried them on a street bike, but I'm sure they would work just fine if you had a face shield.
7th. The desktop charger is nice, but Midland should have put some sort of mounting bracket on the bottom. Because they fit snugly into the charger, you can't just grab them and go, you have to hold down the charger and pull the radio out. Not a big deal, but it is inconvenient.
8th. Works well as a baby monitor. My wife are very busy people with yard work, and taking care of our livestock and actual baby monitors are horrible. I put one radio on VOX and clip the other to my belt and can go outside for a few minutes and almost every peep that my daughter makes comes over the radio.
9th. The camo is good on the radios, almost too good. I layed it down after talking to another buddy while bear hunting last year and after I layed it down a bear came running down the hill. All my attention went to the bear and I started sighting it in, after I shot it, I went to tag it and forgot the radio on the leaves. IT TOOK US OVER AN HOUR TO FIND THE RADIO, I had it on silent talk and volume down and face down so we couldn't hear it. I have since sewed a MOLLE strap on my non-firing shoulder and that is where my radio stays.
10. Many channels to choose from and a pile of privacy channels, we keep our radios on the same channel group and have never heard another radio.
Well that is my review, if you made it this far then I have written a good review. I hope this helps.
