Remington® 870™ Slug Shotguns

  • Legendary Model 870 handling, reliability and accuracy
  • Receivers milled from solid-steel billets for strength
  • Twin action bars ensure smooth, dependable cycling
Each of these slug guns features 3" chambers, 4+1 capacity and fully rifled barrels that consistently deliver outstanding accuracy. And they're just as fast-handling and quick-cycling as their 870 bird-hunting counterparts.
Available:
  • 870 Express® FR-RS – A Cabela's-exclusive that sports a Monte Carlo-style Express brown laminate wood stock. Blasted black-oxide 20" barrel and action. Barrel has adjustable rifle-type open sights and receiver is drilled and tapped to accept a Weaver No. 429M scope-mounting rail.

  • 870 Express Slug – The added weight of a heavier slug barrel helps reduce the recoil from magnum slug loads. Cantilever system provides a rock-solid scope-mounting platform that will help scopes hold zero even when shooting hard-kicking ammo. Nonglare matte finish on all metal. All-weather black synthetic stock.

  • 870 Express Deer – With a 20" barrel and 1" shorter hardwood stock, this lightweight gun handles quickly in cover and is also ideal for youth and smaller-statured hunters. Stock is checkered, has a low-luster finish and is outfitted with a solid rubber recoil pad. Fully adjustable rifle-style open sights.

  • 870 Express Synthetic Deer – All of the features of the Express Deer but with a weatherproof matte black synthetic stock.

  • 870 SPS™ Super Slug – The 25-1/2", extra-heavy, 1"-diameter barrel is fluted longitudinally to reduce weight and pinned to the receiver in order to control barrel vibration. Parabolic Ultragon™ rifling with a 1-in-35" twist stabilizes modern slugs for consistent tack-driving accuracy. Drilled and tapped for scope mounting with Weaver rail included. SureShot™ pistol-grip stock and forend with rubberized overmolding at key grip areas. SuperCell™ recoil pad tames magnum loads. Sling swivel studs built in.

    Remington 870 Express Slug Gun
    Date:
The good...I have the 870 Express Slug Gun with the cantilever mount. Shooting Copper Solids or Accu-tip slugs produce acceptable accuracy~1.5-2.5" groups at 100yds. I've never had a fail to feed, fail to eject, or any misfires of any kind and I've owned this gun for 4-5years.
The in-between...The trigger group is polymer, haven't decided if that's a positive or negative, just different from the older Express models and Wingmasters. The cantilever feels robust when handled, but I typically place my left hand on the scope when shooting on the bench, if you do this with the cantilever mount, you can actually move your point of impact a considerable amount, even though the cantilever might not move much. That's not so much the guns fault as mine, once I moved my hand from the scope to the foregrip, I haven't had any other issues with it.
The bad...The 870 trigger isn't a benchrest trigger. I'd like to see them come out with a better trigger for the slug models a la Savage or Mossberg. The finish on the Express guns is awful. I understand it's cheaper, but I personally wouldn't mind paying more for a real bluing. I hunted in rain during this past deer season. I didn't oil it immediately when I got back in after the day was over, by the next morning, it was covered in rust. (A similar thing happened with my brother's 11-87 Sportsman that has the same garbage finish) I am willing to overlook the trigger and plastic trigger group, but the reason I gave it 4 stars is the finish. I'd recommend it because it gets the job done, but there is definite room for improvement

    Gun Drove Me Crazy
    Date:
I bought this gun last year & I still can not get it to shoot consistent. Had one scope on it & thought it was defective, so I sent it back, got a better scope, still can not get it to shoot consistently. I must have spent fifty bucks on slughs, from a shooting vice & had different guys shoot the gun with the same results. I am a big fan of Cabela's & their products but I can not reccomend this gun. I guess I should have got the H & R single shot.

    ShurShot SPS

Just sighted in my SPS and I love it. @ 50 yards I'm about 3 inches high TDS and shooting a round within a round using Remington AccuTip Sabot slugs and a Nikon slughunter scope. Can't wait to see what it will do @ 100 and 200 yards!

Great slug gun with great accuracy
    Date:
Just bought it - added a Leupold scope. After sighting in the scope hitting the bull from100 yards, I decided to aim at a clay bird from100 yards and bamm, hit it the first shot - can't wait to take it deer hunting. I also used and reccommend the Remington Premier Copper Solid Sabot Slugs. Groupings were very consistant (2-3 inches). The range only has 100 yards but I want to take it to the field and see what happens at 150 and 200.
