Cabela's Upland Tradition Jacket

Author: Adam Bender

I have always been one to take more than I need into the field. More often than not, this usually applied to what I wore above my waist on a pheasant hunt. Besides my coat, I had a blaze orange vest, shell pouch and bird carrier. When I looked into the Upland Tradition Jacket, I soon realized it could be the solution to my pack rat ways

Cabela's Upland Tradition Jacket
Use it year around
When I first put it on, I could feel that there was something about this fabric that felt different. It was soft to the touch, yet you could feel that it would resist burs and heavy brush. This is because it's made of rugged, tightly woven, 100% cotton Tradition Twill to fend off the nastiest briars and branches, protecting your skin from the scrapes and punctures that come from a hard day in the field. This cotton is legendary for its airy breathability, keeping you comfortable on warm, early-season hunts. And you don't have to worry about retiring the jacket once it gets cold, simply layer up underneath and you're ready to go.
Pocket space with a purpose
I was always one of those upland hunters who threw as many shells as they could into their pockets, in fear of running out in the middle of the field. The problem with this was that the pockets I was putting the shells into, were not designed for quick shell grabbing. I don't even want to think about how many missed opportunities I have had because I was digging for a shell in a coat pocket. With this jacket, the two front pockets are positioned for quick and easy access. Not only did they great for carrying shells, but also other gear like my stocking hat, gloves and water bottle.
Also, the lined handwarmer pockets are great for the upland hunter like myself, who doesn't like to wear bulky gloves when they don't have do. They warmed my hands up quickly and I was able to focus on the hunting, not the cold.
Carrying a limit on birds never felt so good
Growing up, I used to be my dad's "birddog". I would flush the bird, retrieve it and then carry it out of the field for him. Once I was old enough to shoot pheasants myself, I quickly learned that dropping the bird, getting ready to shoot and ultimately picking the bird up again, was not the way to go. So that's why I invested in a bird carrier. I thought this little contraption was the solution, but having nine or more pounds of pheasant hanging off your belt loop isn't exactly comfortable. And that's probably why I fell in love with this jacket so fast. It sports the improved Tri-Load® game bag. This allows you to load birds easily from the front, side or back.
The total package
Even though this is the first upland-specific jacket I have ever owned, I must say, it's going to take quite a jacket to impress me more than this one has. It has all the features an upland hunter could ask for and then some.
