Use a Family Firearms Responsibility Contract

Use a family contract to promote awareness
Our children and our families are of primary importance when it comes to firearms safety in the home. At H&R 1871, Inc. we have taken this very, very seriously. That is why, in 1993 we began shipping, with every firearm we sell, our Family Firearms Responsibility Contract. It provides a framework and a guide for the family to discuss firearms issues within the home. It offers a meaningful blueprint for the responsible actions of both parent and child alike, and the signature lines for parents and children create a tangible commitment to safety.

Some may say it is just a piece of paper, but we feel the actions a family takes together, their discussions and their commitments to one another can make a real difference. The contract discusses handling, storage and a range of safety precautions for the parents. It also educates younger members of the family on how to treat and respect firearms within their own home, and what to do if a firearm is encountered outside of the home.

The most important aspect of any in home firearms safety program is a dialogue. The H&R 1871, Inc. Family Firearms Responsibility Contract is a great starting point for real and educational dialogue about firearms with the family setting.
