Cabela's top-shelf upland gear packs plenty of style and performance

Author: Sam Grothe

I bought the coat and pants and wore them through every conceivable condition Colorado and Kansas could throw at me, and they wore like featherweight armor.

Top-Shelf Upland Clothing
I decided to buy Cabela's GORE-TEX™ Upland Guidewear after admiring the garments on another hunter. I was taken in by the rich look of the fabric, the contrast color design and the microsuede collar on the upper portion of the dark khaki version of the coat. The matching pants with reinforced front pant legs were, without a doubt, going to be an essential purchase as well.

I bought the coat and pants and wore them through every conceivable condition Colorado and Kansas could throw at me, and they wore like featherweight armor. They've proven to be indispensable outerwear gear for stomping through deep snow; through the thickest, wettest brush; in freezing-cold winds and sleet; and for keeping me dry and warm when conditions have been less than ideal. They've gotten me out to the hunkered down birds that I probably would have otherwise missed after calling it a day wearing other clothing. These are not going to be your go-to duds for warm-weather action, though.

When I went to Cabela's to select the appropriate size of coat and pants, I was also impressed by the soft hand of the Infinity™ Fieldcloth™ XT shell. Perhaps my favorite feature of the coat and pants is that both are lined with a silky smooth Sports Liner that won't bunch up or hang on any layers underneath. I've actually found these slick liners to be very effective when putting it into high gear to catch up to my dogs, when they've gone on point.

There's More Than Just Style in these Coats
The most unique feature on the coat is the front-loading game bag that's located on the inside of the coat. All you do to stow your bird is slip it through the left-side entry located on the zipper seam and drop it into the interior bird bag. If you're lucky enough to shoot your limit, you may need to push the birds further down in the game bag to make room for another, or open your coat and drop it in. The game bag is made of a tough, waterproof nylon material that can be rinsed clean. This game bag also gives the coat a more seamless look on the outside. No more tails sticking out. No more reaching around your back for birds. This Guidewear coat is for hunters who don't mind spending a few extra bucks to get the finest upland-style design and performance features Cabela's has to offer. It also has plenty of pockets to store shells in. There's even a nifty elastic strap in the top pockets that snaps to the lower pockets and holds them open for grabbing shells when you've encountered one those pheasant explosions. The upper chest pockets are perfect for warming up cold hands.

Rough and Tough GORE-TEX Pants
These 330-denier nylon pants protect you from burs, brush and the thorny stems on shrubs and trees. A very useful feature is the Velcro® and snap-closure strap with a grommet hole that's perfect for attaching your dog's e-collar's transmitter lanyard to.

If you want the best upland hunting clothing Cabela's has to offer, then you can't go wrong with these garments.
