Chill Your Catch

Author: Terry LaCoss

It's hard to beat freshly caught fish for the dinner table! Unfortunately, some fish caught fresh are then placed in a fish box with little ice or insulation.

Terry LaCoss
After a long day of hot summer fishing fun, you open your fish box only to find that the ice has melted and your catch now looks like it has already been cooked!

A simple solution to this age-old problem is purchasing an insulated fish bag. Tthere is also a method for keeping your fish fresh in this type of fish bag. Most salts simply place a few bags of ice in their fish bag, then add their catch as they land them.

However, to really chill your catch, first dump several bags of ice into your fish bag and allow it to melt into a slurry of ice. Once you have caught your dinner, place the fish in the slurry of melted ice. When you return to land that evening, your catch will look like it just swam into your fishing bag!
