If you're into any kind of saltwater fishing, Cabela's has a great rod for you in their Salt StrikerTM
These rods are designed to offer saltwater anglers an excellent performance rod at a price they can afford. With 6 different rod designs to choose from and numerous rod models that incorporate diverse lengths, pieces, actions, powers, line weights, and lure weights there is sure to be a rod to fit any fishing situation.
While offering these rods at a value price range, Cabela's did not skimp in the design of the Salt StrikerTM
Series. The basis for the rods is a quality 50/50 composite graphite blank, with a 100% graphite blank being used on the inshore models. The composite construction gives you the strength and durability of fiberglass, keeping you worry free when you hook a big one, and it adds graphite to reduce the weight. These composite rods are also faster than their fiberglass counterparts, giving you quicker recovery. What this translates into is a hard-fighting saltwater fish fighting the rod instead of you.
All the rod models use Aluminum oxide guides to hold up to the rigors of salt fishing. If you are throwing the heavy stuff, excessive line wear can be a problem with some rods. On the stand-up Salt StrikerTM
models, roller stripper guides are provided at the first guide and the tiptop for reduced friction and to prevent unnecessary line wear. Also one boat casting model features all AFTCO lightweight rollers are provided for smooth, friction-free casting.
All the rods in the Salt StrikerTM
series have unique features geared for specific fishing techniques. For example, on the boat spinning, stand-up, and boat casting models, a nylon gimbal is provided to aid in fighting big fish. When fishing with moderate tackle (20-40 lb.), a gimbal pin is usually recommended to greatly reduce rod twist. However, with some manufacturer's rods, this gimbal can cause discomfort when butted against the body. Cabela's prevents this by providing a handy protective cap for additional comfort.
Also, the Salt StrikerTM
surf rods have unique features geared for long-range casting. They feature a special taper design with split foam grips to help load the rods and allow you to reach areas that others might be missing. While designed for long-range casting, these rods are not limited to the surf. They are also perfect for fishing the rocks for stripers, casting the beaches for bull reds, and they also work great for fishing tailraces in freshwater.
The Salt StrikerTM
series is offered in boat spinning, boat casting, stand-up, surf, and inshore models in a variety of lengths and weights to fit any presentation. These rods are also built to stand up to the tough duty that saltwater tackle requires. However, unlike with some salt tackle, you don't have to mortgage the boat to own one.
