Cabela's Scent-Free Snake Boots at Cabela's

Cabela's Scent-Free Snake Boots

Author: Sam Grothe

I recently bought a pair of Cabela's Scent-Free Snake Boots and I firmly believe it was one of the best buys I've ever made.

Cabela's Scent-Free Snake Boots
I figure there are really only two reasons most folks buy a pair of snake boots.
  1. Either you plan to hunt and kill those no-legged, devil-tongued hissers and need a little fangproof security.
  2. Or, you loath slither-bellied spawns of Satan (Can you tell I hate snakes?), and you want to be sure when your legs launch you five feet in the air or you speed away from the ground-viper at breakneck speed, that you have fang-resistant support should you slip and fall or go vertical and come down on the insidious leg-snapper.
I've seen burly men the size and shape of the Terminator reduced to whimpering girly men at the very sight of a spider. For me, "The Wimp Switch" is quickly triggered by slithering snakes, no matter the size or variety. I'm often outside cruising riverbanks, mountain trails and the plains of northeastern Colorado oblivious to those scaled inhabitants, because my attention will often be focused on the scenery instead. Luckily, my phobia is limited to surprise sightings, which makes edging in for proper identification and the live-and-let-live or die-by-the-nearest-spear determinations much easier.
Sam scores a nice rattler.
I've tried on a few different pairs of snake boots in hopes of getting a good fit for my big calves and feet, but most of the snake boots I've tried on have all been somewhat constrictive and tight.
Not so with Cabela's Scent-Free Snake Boots! The first time I put them on I knew I was going to be a happy customer. There are no snaps, no shoelaces and no uncomfortable pulling-on needed. My feet slide easily in and out of these snake stalkers. I don't know exactly what proprietary material Cabela's uses for the snakebite-repelling armor on these boots, but they are as comfortable and as light as any rubber boot I've ever owned. The fact that they have a scent-free coating and come in Seclusion 3D® camo would also make them a great boot for early-season teal, dove, spring turkey and even big game in the foothills, where diamondbacks like to sun themselves. The good news about these boots is that we don't have to go test them out to make sure they work, because Cabela's has performed exhaustive, in-the-field testing with a variety of poisonous snakes and they are verifiably fangproof. So much so in fact, that snakes do not penetrate the armor or get hung up on it with their dangerous daggers.
Sam Grothe wrangles a big one.
Not only did I choose these boots because I knew they'd provide me with exceptional protection from snakebites, but also because they have a traditional slip-on design that makes them a good dual-purpose chore boot as well. I actually use these boots in the morning to go feed the chickens, my pheasants and to let the goats out into the barnyard before I get ready for work. The one-piece molded construction on these boots is so durable they feel like they'll stay in mint condition for a century or two. The rubber design makes it a snap to clean up too. Just spray them off with a hose and throw them in the mudroom for the next chore or snake skirmish.
There have even been a few real-time snake sightings at our farmhouse by my wife, which are usually accompanied by a shrill scream that sends me running and diving into my snake boots like an EMT on the way to a fatal accident. And, I must tell you, nothing gives me more satisfaction and confidence to have a showdown with a serpent than the battle mail these boots sport.
