Polartec Buyer's Guide

Author: Kristin Lauver

Polartec® produces more than 300 different fabrics under their brand name. It can be tough to keep track of all the textiles and technologies under the company’s umbrella. To simplify things, Polartec® categorizes some of their most popular fabrics into three groups — warmth, comfort and shelter. Each category includes various weights and textures for wide range of activities and weather conditions. Use this guide to figure out which Polartec® product is right for you.

WARMTH
The original Polartec® fleece fabric was designed decades ago with warmth in mind. In fact, it’s still widely used today for everything from hard-core mountain expeditions to everyday casual wear. But over the years, Polartec® has developed dozens of insulating fabrics with a variety of weights and finishes to represent the most recent breakthroughs in fabric technology.

Polartec® Classic fleece is the standard for lightweight warmth and breathability. It’s been the primary insulation layer of choice among outdoor enthusiasts for years. It resists pilling, dries quickly and maintains its insulating abilities through repeated washings. Water-repellent finish available.

Polartec® Classic 100 is the lightest weight fleece in the classic line. It’s ideal as a warm first layer or a lightweight top layer during aerobic activity.
Polartec® Classic 200 is in between the lightest and heaviest fleece in the classic line. It delivers outstanding warmth and versatility.
Polartec® Classic 300 is the heaviest weight fleece in the classic line. It makes a warm thermal layer for outdoor activities in cold conditions.
Polartec® Thermal Pro® is the next generation of fleece fabric, known for its outstanding performance and unique variety of durable surface textures like tweed, corduroy, sweater-knit and more. It delivers incredible warmth, but remains lightweight. It’s also breathable and dries quickly, just like the original. Water-repellent finish available.

Polarfleece® also delivers breathable warmth without weight. It’s most often used in cold-weather accessories because of its exceptional durability and stain resistance. It is soft, dries quickly and maintains its insulating properties after repeated washings.

COMFORT

These technologically advanced Polartec® fabrics actively pull moisture away from the body, dry quickly and are exceptionally comfortable against the skin.

Polartec® Power Dry® fabric features bi-component knit construction that creates two different surfaces – an interior that moves moisture away from the skin and an exterior that dries quickly (twice as fast as cotton). It’s also highly breathable.

Polartec® Power Dry® X-Static® Fiber keeps skin dry and features natural antimicrobial properties that prevent odor. Silver fibers permanently knit into the fabric neutralize bacteria.
Polartec® Power Dry® Odor Resist fabric also features natural antimicrobial properties that prevent odor. Salt molecules permanently bonded to the fabric neutralize bacteria.

Polartec® Power Stretch® fabric features four-way stretch that hugs the body. It also wicks moisture and offers breathable warmth without weight. A special construction process results in two unique surfaces – a soft interior that wicks moisture and a durable, smooth, wind-resistant exterior. Its exterior is also abrasion-resistant.

SHELTER

For an even greater degree of weather protection, take shelter in these Polartec® fabrics. They’re wind- and water-resistant, but maintain breathability. They regulate temperature and keep you dry in the harshest conditions.

Polartec® Wind Pro® fabric is four times more wind-resistant than traditional fleece – and it maintains 85% of the breathability. It has a water-repellent surface and its tight construction is exceptionally durable. Its textured surface traps air for a high warmth-to-weight ratio.

Polartec® Windbloc® fabric is completely windproof, providing maximum protection from cold temperatures and the elements. It’s soft, stretchy, durable and breathable. It also resists pilling and features a water-repellent finish. It’s ideal for wearing when activity levels are low.
