High-step in comfort with Cabela's Ultimate Field Dog System Pants

Author: Sam Grothe

Getting into the wild birds usually requires doing some high-stepping through dream fields of milo, corn, tumbleweeds or thick creek bottoms with dense willow patches. These are some of the elusive cackler's favorite haunts. High-stepping is not a hunter's preferred gate as it expends a lot of energy. And, if you're as serious about getting into pheasant explosions as I am, not any old pair of upland pants will do.

Cabela's Ultimate Field Dog System Pants
Try out a pair of Cabela's Ultimate Field Dog™ System Pants next time you are ready to goose-step in search of sky dragons and your legs will thank you at the end of the day. I know my legs were happy that I wore them. I pulled on a pair opening day of Nebraska's pheasant season this year, and I'm here to tell you the first thing you'll notice is how feather-light they feel. They are simply the lightest things I've ever felt on my legs while hunting. What is also amazing about them is despite the airy relief you'll get, their 330-denier nylon-faced legs shed nasty burs and protect you from sharp branches and unforeseen abrasions. It's Cabela's proprietary Infinity Field Cloth Shell that the pants are made from that save your legs all the weight felt by other upland hunting pants.
These aren't only lightweight pants; they're also system pants that have an abundance of features. Topping the list of features are the flip-out pockets that are great for stashing spent shells or holding smaller transmitters in. There are also grommets with hook-and-loop closures located at the top of the pants' upper and lower pockets that are great for securing transmitters or a retractable rooster locator call. On the outside of the flip-out pockets are shell loops for quickly reloading after a rooster flushes and you've spent all the shells you had chambered.

Down both sides of the pants you have large snap-close side cargo pockets that are perfect for stuffing gloves or hats into when the temperatures warm up, or bumpers for dog training sessions. Additionally, inside the lower cargo pockets are cinch-down sleeves with elastic pulls to keep your electronics safe and secure. The heavy-duty belt loops stand up well under the brunt of heavyweight loads you could potentially carry into the field. In fact, Tom Dokken, the inventor/owner of Dokken Dead Fowl, uses Cabela's Ultimate Field Dog gear, so you know it's quality gear.
