Cabela's Activ-Lite Upland Jacket: My New Favorite at Cabela's

Cabela's Activ-Lite Upland Jacket: My New Favorite

Author: Sam Grothe

On opening day of pheasant season in Nebraska, it can either be blazing hot out or darn near freezing. It just so happens that this year the temperature was ideally cool.

Cabela's Activ-Lite Upland Jacket
I usually like to layer up for pheasant hunting, because I don't want to be caught out in the elements without enough gear on. All I had on besides field pants was a tee shirt and my new Activ-Lite Upland Jacket.
I had been anticipating the opening of pheasant season more and more, because I was really excited about putting on this jacket and getting out in the fields. The supershell fabric was so clean, I was almost afraid to wear it hunting, because I didn't want to get it dirty. Seriously, it looks so cool that I'd almost rather wear it as my favorite jacket than anything else I own. If you're used to wearing camo or traditional brown garments upland hunting, then the Activ-Lite will certainly be a change for you. The jacket just exudes modern styling with a mixture of blaze orange up top and brown fabric below.
By the time my hunting buddy and I rolled up to our first field, I had the hook-and-loop-adjustable cuffs closed fairly tight to keep my body's heat trapped inside, and the front zipper pulled all the way up because it was brisk out. I was amazed how thin the microfleece was and how warm it kept me. I'm sure the wind- and water-resistant WindShear™ lining helped too, because there is hardly a day that goes by in Nebraska when the wind isn't blowing. As the pace and action of the hunt sped up, I just tugged on the zipper to get a little ventilation.
Two very large zip-slash pockets can either carry a few shells or can be used as handwarmers. I found the left upper chest pocket the perfect place to keep my dog collar transmitter.

I was also surprised how lightweight the jacket was; it definitely made all the miles of walking we did feel a lot better. Because if there's anything that really discourages me on a hunt, it's when you feel weighed down by all the gear. The microfleece also has a resilient property that keeps it looking wrinkle-free most of the time. It also handled all kinds of weeds and brush just fine. And, as small as a detail as it might sound, the Cabela's branded zipper pull looks cool and classy, and it reminds everyone who admires it where your favorite store is.
When the day was done and we had cleaned our birds, I noticed some blood had gotten on one of the sleeves. All I did to get it out was hold it under some cold tap water, and it looked brand new.
I'm addicted to my new Cabela's Activ-Lite Jacket, and I actually wear it out in public. The cool design angles of the blaze on brown make me feel like a super pheasant slayer wherever I go.
