Joby Original Gorillapod

You want to buy what? A lot of things ran through my mind when my husband told me he wanted to buy a Gorillapod. And an image of a compact, flexible tripod wasn't one of them. But in the year and a half since we took this handy gadget on its first adventure, we haven't left town without it.

We often find ourselves surrounded by gorgeous scenery, miles from the nearest fellow hiker. This makes for an amazing experience, but our ventures have left us with very few photos that include the landscape and both of us. The pictures of ourselves we did manage to take were usually framed by an outstretched arm on at least one side.

But the Gorillapod has changed all that. Small and lightweight enough to slip into a pocket when hiking, it's also easy to set up thanks to a slim-line attachment we keep connected to our point-and-shoot camera. And the 30-plus ball-and-socket joints that make up its three bendable, twistable legs offer limitless placement options. Rubberized ring and foot grips complete the package, making it possible for the Gorillapod to stay put on jagged rocks, wrapped around tree branches, or even balanced on the hood of a car.
