5. If the code version in the unit is lower than the version shown, you must upgrade the software in the unit to use Navionics ECharts. An upgrade can be downloaded free of charge from our Software Upgrade page.

Download and install NavTrans software.

NavTrans software (for PC-compatibles) is used to obtain the GPS unit’s internal serial number (not the external serial number on the outside of the unit), and to transfer the Navionics chart from the PC to the GPS unit. NavTrans software can be downloaded free of charge from our NavTrans Software page.

Use NavTrans to obtain the GPS unit’s internal serial number.

1. Connect the GPS unit to a power supply and to the PC serial port using the cables provided with your unit.
2. Start the NavTrans application (may also be called Lowrance Installer or Lowrance Data Transfer.)
3. Click on the "Get Serial #" button. The program will attempt to connect to the GPS unit.
4. If the program was able to connect to the unit, then the unit’s internal serial number is now visible. Make note of this 10-digit number, as it is required when you order your Navionics chart. The chart you purchase will only work with this unit. (The serial number may contain only the numbers 0-9 and the letters A-F.)
5. Close the Lowrance Data Transfer application.

If you have an older version of NavTrans, you may need to use the following procedure instead of the one listed above:

1. Connect the GPS unit to a power supply and to the PC serial port using the cables provided with your unit.
2. Start the NavTrans application (may also be called Lowrance Installer or Lowrance Data Transfer.)
3. Click on the Transfer button on the Lowrance Data Transfer application. The program will attempt to connect to the unit.
4. If the program is able to connect to the unit, a window will pop up entitled "Select Chart to Transfer."
5. Move this window to the side by dragging its title bar with the mouse.
6. The unit’s internal serial number is now visible.

Contact Navionics or an authorized Navionics Dealer Outlet to order Navionics ECharts.

Select the chart you wish to order by using the Lowrance web site or the Navionics web site. You may also wish to visit an authorized Navionics Dealer Outlet to select your chart. Dealers have software that displays all of the detail available on each chart.

Once you have selected a chart, refer to the Navionics web site for ordering information. You may elect to receive Navionics ECharts on floppy disk, by e-mail, or both. You will need the 10-digit internal serial number of the Lowrance GPS unit (not the external serial number on the outside of the unit) to order a chart.

Install the Navionics EChart to your PC’s hard drive.

Once you receive the Navionics EChart, it will be in the form of a self-extracting, executable file. Run this file on the PC (click the Start button, choose Run, then Browse, then Open the .exe file, for example NE214S08.exe, then click OK.) Choose where to store the Navionics chart on the hard drive then click OK. The default location is C:\NAVIONIC, which will work fine in most cases.

Use NavTrans to transfer the map to the GPS unit.

1. Connect the GPS unit to a power supply and to the PC serial port using the cables provided with your unit.
2. Run NavTrans on the PC (may also be called Lowrance Installer or Lowrance Data Transfer.)
3. Click on the Transfer button on the Lowrance Data Transfer application. The program will attempt to connect to the GPS unit.
4. If the program is able to connect to the unit, then a window will pop up entitled "Select Chart to Transfer."
5. Choose the Navionics chart file to transfer and click OK.
6. If the chart is too large to fit completely in the GPS unit, the program will display an image and text description of the chart sections from which you may choose. You may need to use the horizontal scroll bars to view all of the sections. Click on one of the sections to highlight it, then click OK. Most charts will not require this step. See Divided Navionics Charts for a list of divided charts.
7. Select the memory partition(s) in which you wish to store the map data in the unit. If the data is larger than 1MB then both partitions will be selected.
8. Click OK to begin transferring the chart to the unit. The transfer process will take a few minutes.

Set the necessary options in the unit for viewing Navionics data.

In order to view Navionics data on a Lowrance unit, certain options need to be set in the unit.

First turn the Navionics data ON as follows:

1. While viewing the map, press the MENU button.
2. Select MAP SETUP.
3. Select MAP DETAILS (or EARTH MAP OPTIONS on the GlobalMap 100 and AirMap 100.)
4. Select NAVIONICS MAPS.
5. Set to ON.

Navionics maps must be turned OFF to view other types of map data, such as IMS SmartMaps, IMS WorldMap, and MapCreate data.

Several other important unit options affect how Navionics data is displayed. These additional options are also found on the MAP DETAILS menu.

MAP DETAIL LEVEL - Navionics data was designed to be viewed at NORMAL, but can be set to HIGH if preferred. Some map text and symbols may be crowded when viewed at HIGH detail.

CONTOUR LINES 1 - Turns ON or OFF Navionics depth contour lines of 5 meters or less. Also controls some channels, shipping lanes, restricted areas, pipelines, cables, leading lights, and other nautical chart lines. These features are all displayed as dashed lines in the Lowrance unit.

CONTOUR LINES 2 - Turns ON or OFF Navionics depth contours of greater than 5 meters. These features are displayed as dotted lines in the Lowrance unit.
