Boat Noise - Effects game fish.

Author: Terry LaCoss

Boat noise can work either for or against the saltwater angler, depending upon the present mood of nearby game fish.

Terry LaCoss
The sounds of water banging on the side of your boat may attract fish on one day and spook the entire school on the following day. Other foreign sounds, which can affect fish, are motor noise, slammed storage lids, hitting the bottom with your boat or motor and the whirring sound of the electric motor.

Unfortunately, many saltwater fishermen are simply not aware of these boat noises and how they affect nearby game fish.

Simple rules to follow: shallow water species are often spooked by boat noise. Deepwater species can be attracted to baits and lures by boat noise, particularly when they are in a feeding mood. Finally, moody game fish are often frightened by boat noise, so keep the noise down!
