Checklist: First-Aid Kit

Author: Kathleen Pilney

In the excitement of packing for a family camping trip, accidents and danger might not be at the forefront of your mind. You can alleviate the discomforts and smooth out emergency situations by assembling a first-aid kit ahead of time. Use the tips and checklist as a guideline for assembling your own kit, or to replace missing supplies from your existing kit.

first aid kit
  • Keep current on first aid and CPR by attending classes.
  • Make your own kit, or purchase a ready-made kit on our Web site First Aid Kits.
  • Update your kit before each trip, and make sure medications haven't expired.
  • Make a list of supplies you've used while on a trip, and replace them when you return.
  • Store supplies in a waterproof container to keep contents dry.
  • Keep a brief medical history in the kit for each person in the party. Include name, birthday, drug/food allergies, a list of medications, medical conditions and emergency contact information.
