Description: Colt 1895 New Navy .38 Colt & S&W Special. This gun was purchased by the U.S.Navy in 1895 and shipped to the Navy Yard, New York on May 29th 1895 as part of a batch of 500. The barrel is bright, the action is tight, and the finish appears to be original. It is marked U.S.Navy with an anchor on the butt. The chambers will accept a .38 special cartridge. We do not know if the cylinder originally had a step that had to be reamed out for this or not. As .38 Long Colt is now available again, it would probably be best to stick with that caliber. Under no circumstances should .38 Spl.+P ammunition be used in this gun. It is in remarkably good condition. This model has the counter clockwise turning cylinder like the S&Ws. The hard rubber grips are intact.
