Cabela's King Kat Tournament Results for the Mississippi River at New Madrid, Missouri

Author: Larry Crecelius

This past Saturday September 18, 2010 the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail held a qualifying event on the Mississippi River at New Madrid, Missouri. These anglers were competing not only for cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2010 Cabela’s King Kat Classic to be held in October at a site to be announced.

The New Madrid event has always been a big hit on the trail with many local activities planned in conjunction with the tournament filling the streets of New Madrid for the daylong event.
Top 5 Results
Taking first place with an overwhelming margin was the team of Gary Haynes of Troy, Tennessee and David Coughhlin of Jackson, Tennessee with 5 fish totaling 193.75 pounds and earning $2,500.00. Of the 5 fish brought to the scales one was big fish of the event with a 67.55 pound blue catfish. Gary and David were fishing by #8 island in 70-90 feet of water using skipjack to lure in these monstrous fish. All total the team caught 9 fish of the day which earned them an additional $500.00.
In second place was the  Paragould, Arkansas team of Daryl and Jason Masingale with a total weight of 145.9 pounds and earning $1,200.00. Daryl and Jason were fishing 20 miles downstream in 45 feet of water then fishing more and more shallow water throughout the day.
Third place went to Matthew Bingham of Memphis, Tennessee and Roger Wiley of Brighton, Tennessee with a total weight of 130.15 pounds and earning $500.00. Matthew and Roger were fishing down river 7-9 miles in 50-80 feet of water using skipjack and catching a total of 12 fish throughout the day.
Walter Hays of Cunningham, Kentucky and Glynn Grogan of Arington, Kentucky took fourth place with a total of 109.1 pounds and earning $300.00. Walter and Glynn were fishing north of the weigh in site in 35-50 feet of water using skipjack.
Fifth place went to the Cape Girardeau, Missouri team of Lindsay Sample and Steven Barry with 101.3 pounds and earning a new 55 pound thrust Minn Kota trolling motor. Lindsay  and Steven were fishing near a river eddy in 25 feet of water using Asian carp for bait. The team caught a total of 13 fish for the day.
The city of New Madrid had tons of events going on during the event.  The first ever Little Miss King Kat Beauty Pageant, a catfish calling contest, and a wonderful kids fishing rodeo, that had 55 kids enter.  We would like to thank the New Madrid chamber of commerce, and Martindale Chevrolet for making this special event possible.
