"Couldn't believe how sharp and rugged this thing is. Came in handy clearing downed branches after Hurricane Gustav. Balances easy, a lot of power in so small a tool. I definitely recommend this Machete."

Gerber Brush Thinner Machete,
June 7, 2008
By Mrlemonjello
from Hillsboro Or

"This is a great machete! It is still sharp even after hours of chopping through Blackberries and vine maple. Even dead and dry wood is no match for the very sharp and stout blade. Why then you may ask am I only giving a four star rating? I think the handle, (even though quite comfortable) is way too short. It should be about twice as long so as to keep your hands and arms well clear of any thorns you may encounter."

A REAL MACHETE,
February 12, 2008
By JoDe
from Andalusia, AL
|
"I purchased this machete and used it the first day. Clearing out heavy brush has never been so effortless. The blade is so much more sturdy than any machete I have ever used. No problem cutting through limbs up to two inches thick! The handle is hollow and eliminates the vibration, however does get a little slippery with sweat. Another user suggested placing "soft grip" as used on tennis rackets, and that will solve the grip problem. I do also recommend putting a wrist strap in the holes provided just in case it does slip out of your hand. It also comes with a great zippered case for transport. Extremely great product for the money!!! I will order another and have suggested it to friends!"

Awesome brush chopper,
October 15, 2007
By kingkabelashopper

"Really really glad I bought this- probably the best brush chopper I have ever used. It's really unbelievable just how WELL this thing works, I mean ya gotta try it to believe it. I own several pretty darn good machetes (thank you, Cabela's) and this works the best of all of 'em for brush up to 2 inches.
Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the handle- too slick (fixed that with some grippy tape) and the handle just feels, well, kinda FLIMSY...it hasn't broken yet though, and I used it a lot this summer clearing trails on a very overgrown parcel in the Northwest. I have definitely recommended it to my friends."

Backpacking tool,

By anth

"Light weight but not flimsy. Used it to chop firewood and clear camp sites. The molded zipperd sheath is a nice feather nd made it much easier to strap to my pack. only real knock is the slick handle, they should look into upgrading that. For the price it was good, i feel it wil hoold up well to extended use."

Death on Devils Club,
August 23, 2007
By jiminak
from Alaska
|
"I'm impressed with this tool; Even though it is a very lightweight machette it is able to cut through alder up to 1.5" thick with one wack. It also makes short work of that lovely piece of vegitation know as devils club. The one thing That needs to be addressed is the handle. it is very slick and if you are wearing cotton or simular fabric gloves it is almost impossible to maintain a grip. I had it slide rite out of my hand twice I removed my gloves and had no further issues. Some type of grip tape such as hocky stick tape should be applied prior to use."

Great Machete,

By HopSing
from Mushroom, Illinois

"I use it mushroom hunting. It clears the stickers right out of the way. Even small trees are no problem. It's lightweight too. The curved end will let me cut a shroom and pick it up way under the briars. The belt holder keeps it out of the way when you don't need it. Father-in law liked it so well he bought one too."

OUTANDING backcountry tool,
April 22, 2007
By rumpleskinskin
from Colorado

"I can't say enough good stuff about this gizmo. I've used and tested an enormous sampling of backcountry survival tools and was thoroughly prepared to be underwhelmed by the Gerber's performance (as I've been fairly unimpressed by several of Gerber's offerings). BUT, this thing performed exceptionally well during several days of testing in which raw material shelters were constructed, snares were fabricated, fuel wood prepared, you name it... The design combines the best aspects of eastern machetes with the feel and character of a hatchet. Tough working edge. Very well balanced. Easy to use aloft. Very light for the available business end momentum. Very intuitive feel noted by several users. And, most importantly, it's considerably safer to use than many other backcountry wood tools IF you can remember where your "other" hand is during use. The traditional problems of injury from inept backcountry hatchet / axe use are virtually impossible with the Gerber's geometry and blade design. You can easily fell small trees or shave tinder sticks with one blade. Remarkably versatile. Yes, the handle could use a bit more grip, but really... there are only about a million simple solutions to that shortcoming. Use a bit of rosin, pine tar, camo grip tape, or grippy gloves, and your problem is quickly solved. I'll never go into any serious bush without it now. Great value. Carries well in Eberlestock packs for quick-draw applications. I recommended these to a local surveyor and he bought a dozen for his crews. They love them. Enjoy."

Machete,
November 21, 2006
By Stump
from Albany, NY
|
"If you are looking for a tough, reasonably priced machete, this will do the job. For some uses you may want a longer one, but it's hooked shape is useful and effective. It's easy to hold, carry in it's case and seems pretty indestructable. I've got similiarly made Gerber short and long axes and they're very tough and effective for price."
