"I really liked this BB gun for 2 weeks-Then my 4 year old grandson cocked it--he broke the cocking lever--I was watching him--he did it correctly--but the plastic lever broke--I hate to say this but the Daisy BB gun I purchased for my sons--25 to 28 years ago is a higher quality machine than this new one."

"I was given one of these for Christmas a number of years ago. It worked fine for a couple of weeks, shot great, until it jammed for some reason. Couldn't dislodge the BB, so I tried what i always try, I took it apart to fix it.
As soon as I took out the bolt holding the trigger group in place the whole internal mechanism sprung forward in the body, moving it out of alignment with the frame, stuck so it couldn't be dislodged. There's no way to further disassemble the gun as the entire body, from "receiver" to muzzle, is stamped from one piece of sheet metal.
Utterly impossible to service, with cheap plastic components mixed in to boot. Keep away from this BB gun."

"its a very fun reliable gun mine hasnt lost any power in the 8 years ive had it it will pierce a old metal coffe can witch is a feet for this type of gun i DO NOT like the plastic lever on these new ones but mine still perfect condition so i guess its good time will tell how well it holds up for my kids the 105 B (buck) cheap innacurate junk but if you glue the truglo dot back in the sight it will come outta the end like a plug and fit in this red ryder its very knife to have"

"After a numerous failed attempts to get my 10 year son off the video games and into hunting, I finally succeded.
While visiting a Cabelas store my son knocked 20 out of 20 at the "shootout" - and got the bug. So, for Christmas we got him the Red Ryder - the same first gun I had.
After a short stint at the "out"-laws #wife's parents# we finally had some time at home and built a target out of a cardboard box filled with newspapers and magazines.
He couldn't wait - but before he could shoot I had him talk to his grandfather - a hunting instructer - to review all the safety requirements. Now with sufficient respect for a gun he was ready.
We set up the target - ensuring a proper backstop - loaded the BB's, cocked the gun and ping - he hit it with the first shot at 50'! He then proceeded to put about 10 shots into a 8" area - not bad for his first time.
I always remembered watching the arching BB fly through the air - no more, this gun shot straight, fast and accurately.
Its not a hunting gun, but the Red Ryder is one of the best guns to introduce your son or daughter to a lifetime of safe hunting."

"I bought a Red Ryder as a Christmas present for my 9 year old boy. It didn't last 5 minutes before the plastic cocking mechanism broke. I realize that everything seems to be made of plastic today, but my advice would be to spend a bit more money and buy something that will last.
This was a Christmans memory I could have done without."

"I purchased the Daisy Red Rider for my son for Christmas. He is seven and has been bugging me for one for over a year. He was so excited. Right out of the box, we went over safety and handling the bb gun and read through all of the manual. We loaded it with bb's and took it outside and set up a pyramid of aluminum cans. I took the first shot to see if the sights were set. Direct hit! My son then took the next shot, first time ever shooting any sort of gun. Direct hit! He was so excited, but probably not nearly as excited as I was inside. So far it has worked flawlessly and I believe will satisfy him for quite awhile. Great gun to learn with and it seems well built for the price. It has also brought my son great pleasure having a gun to put in the safe with the others. The only thing is cocking it is too hard for him. I think though, at his age, that is a good thing."
