Not for Surf fishing, March 17, 2009
By SurfCastNewbee from Sacramento, CA

"After reading pervious reviews, i got the impression that this rod was a good Surf Fishing, but its not. I feel the rod is too fragile for salt water fishing. Cast far, but the guides are too small."

Great For Surf, August 8, 2008
By Ranger2010 from Lansford, pa

"i have the 2 1/4 lb model and we were surf fished on Assateague Island last week and the rod cast's really far with 2-3 oz sinker. we only caught croakers & flounder. i did hook it to something really big but i could not bring it in, the rod didnt break but it flexed a lot. great rod for the money, i am going to buy the 1 3/4 model."

Good light surf rod, June 25, 2008
By kplus8 from Salinas, CA

"I paired the rod with a Penn salt water spinning reel with 8 lb line. It casts 1 1/2 oz tin and poppers very well. It looks good and won't tire you out. So far I have only landed some small surf perch and one small stripper. I think this rod will hold up to the demands of surf fishing. It is a great buy."

Excellent pole, great price., June 24, 2008
By Anonymous Reviewer from Hawaii

"I bought the 1-3/4lb pole as a whipping/mempachi pole for small game in the Hawaiian waters and it works great. The length and light weight makes it easy to cast a 1 oz egg sinker 80+ yards. For the price, this is an excellent value fishing pole and it works great with the Stradic 4000/5000."

Excellent Long Range Rod, March 17, 2008
By Soonerhybrid from OK

"This rod is ideal for bank fishing when one needs to cast long distances. It casts farther and more effortlessly that either of the surf rods I own and does so with less weight. The Predator's light weight (mine is 1 3/4 #) and extra long handle make it possible to cast well over 100 yards for long periods without tiring. The only design shortcoming (also mentioned in another review) is the relatively small diameter of the guides. Larger guides would make it possible to cast even farther."

Predator Spinning Rod, June 19, 2007
By KB50 from Northern California

"Excellent weight, length, and action for surf casting with artificials or bait. Excellent combo when teamed with Cabela's Prodigy 4500A. Light enough combo for constant casting while moving up and down long stretches of beach areas where surf perch and stripers frequent. Perfect length for close inshore casts as well as long casts with artificials in the half ounce to three ounce range."

predator, June 11, 2007
By kpfisher

"This is a very good rod, I have had mine for 4 years and have caught many fish with it. For the price you can't go wrong, you don't need to worry about scratching or breaking it, just buy a new one. This is a tough rod and it has proven itself in many tough and rough areas in Hawaii."

predator rods, May 22, 2007
By washingtoncarper from Spokane WA

"i now own one each of the predator 1 3/4 and 2 1/4 test curve rods and have found them to be excellent for my purposes.
My only very slight criticism is that the reel seat could be a couple of inches higher up the butt section, apart from that, perfect."

Best bang for the buck, May 16, 2007
By gman1253 from CT

"I have had one of the European Predator Spinning Rods (2 1/4 version) for 4 years and it is great. Like one of the other reviewer said, if they made one with larger guides for spinning reels it would easily blow away most of the other surf rods out there. I use it for surf fishing for Blues & Stripers in LI sound, Montauk or RI & it works great paired with a Shimano Stradic 5000. I was easily matching a young guys with a Van Staal with a Lami and I was only throwing a 1.5oz tin vs. his 3 oz plug. If I thew a 3 oz tin .....no comparison.
One of the best deals out there, I believe they are also popular with West Coast surf fishermen too."

European Spinning Rod, April 23, 2007
By BNewYork from Staten Island NY

"I wasn't to sure about this when it was recommended to me by the salesman but I took his word and I'm glad I did.The rod is a little tough to get used to with the long handle but it is comfortable working big tins and plugs for strippers in the surf.Paired with Shimmano Stradic 5000 it casts well."

Predator Rod, April 10, 2007
By UncleRuss from North Carolina

"These rods are perfect as medium surf rods, for 2-4oz weight. They work equally well for spinning or casting, and have a full-length action as well as a relatively fast tip. The fit-and finish are remarkable for a rod in this price class.
Caasting these rods takes little effort and they can be used with a straight-overhead casting style, or the more traditional windup-and-step style. Hang time with a 3oz weight on a well-matched 4000-size spinning reel or 5500-size conventional reel with 8-12lb line is usually 5+ seconds - that easily translates into 80-110 yards of actual distance. They will set up in a sand spike with a good curve at the tip, and will register strikes as well as any rod we've used. The ferrules do not wear as much as many other rods, and just a little cleanup after use keeps them fresh for a lot of years.
We have landed 5' blacktips on 12lb line as well as big blues and albacore with these rods. They can be used with a variety of float-weights to pull small lures and even flies in nice retrieve patterns, when the beach slope is relatively shallow.
A great value for the money!

Predator rod, April 9, 2007
By carpcrazy from Jersey city, NJ

"I already own 7 European carp style spinning rods and was looking for a more modest carp rod to be able to use on short sessions.
Went to your PA store (great store by the way! ) got the Predator spinning 2-1/4 rod and tried it right away on a lake on my way back home.
What a surprise ! Great rod especially for the price ! I strongly recommend it. Was able to get 80 yds plus without really trying. Had a baitruner Sea Striker 10lbs line. I used 3oz weight ( 90grams) with no problem.
I wish Cabela's would come out with a 2-3/4 version soon!
Overall, great rod & great price."

Great rod!, January 9, 2007
By BigChris from alta loma, ca

"i have the 1 3/4 rod with a Salt Striker SS-50 with 12lb test. this rod casts like a dream! am able to put 1.5oz weights over 100yrds! ive caught everything from 30lb carp to a 5.5ft leopard shark.

this rod works great as a surf rod or a long distance freshwater rod. all those guides may seem like overkill, but they are perfect for light line and reduce stress points.

great rod! will order a casting version soon ;)"

Exceptional value, January 5, 2007
By bassharrier from Altoona Pa.

"I've had this rod for 4 years now. I wanted a rod to cast loooong distance and thats what this does at a fraction of the price of high end rods. Also I was really impressed with how sensitive it is. The only fault I have is the stripper guide (18mm) is too small for a spinning rod of this line class. Regardless, I doubt you'll find a better rod in this price range. Highly recommended."

Excellent rod for many types of fishing, December 30, 2006
By CupertinoFisherman from Cupertino, CA

"First of all, it is sure what European fishermen call "carp rod". Designed to handle the most powerful freshwater game fish. The heavier(2-1/4 lb.) one is what I just love. As well as a lot of my friends.
1) Casting. I really was able to do 100+yards casts with 3 oz sinker. And with great precision, too.
2) Retrieving. It can handle real big fish with ease.
And sure that rod has real good price. I use it with Shimano Baitrunner 4500."
