Just like an experienced outfitter guiding hunters in the unforgiving wilderness of Alaska, our top-of-the-line Alaskan Outfitter Frame and Pack will endure the most rugged terrains and unforgiving weather conditions. By replacing the traditional pin and split ring attachment system with a series of hook-and-loop attachment points and nylon webbing, we made this pack super-quiet for still hunting and stalking. We also added the ultimate adjustable suspension system with a padded hip belt and shoulder straps, much like you would expect to find on more expensive, hi-tech, internal frame packs. The bottom of the frame extends out with a freighter shelf to help support the load of the pack or to carry a heavy load when the pack is removed. Nylon webbing extends from the base of the frame out to the freighter shelf, preventing anything from slipping out. When you're packing out the antlers of a trophy elk from deep in the backcountry, slide the blaze orange compression pod out of the freighter shelf for a secure, steady and safe hike. And when you're toting back large loads with the frame and freighter pod, a friend can carry the rest of the pack with the sewn-in hideaway shoulder straps. A fully padded, compression rifle holder tucks your firearm away snugly. 420-denier nylon oxford ripstop shell is super-tough and exceptionally lightweight. Fully expanded, the dividable main compartment holds up to 5,300 cu. in. of equipment. A hydration pocket in the main pack accommodates most hydration systems. The heavy-duty frame adjusts from 39" to 43" high. The pack also has four roomy exterior pockets and a top pocket with a pull-out rainfly to protect your gear from harsh downpours. Imported.
Weight: 11.25 lbs. (frame and pack), 6.2 lbs. (frame only).
    Camo pattern: Mossy Oak® Break-Up®.

Alaskan Outfitter Pack with Frame, August 13, 2008
By tommytSarasotaFL from Boat Captain , Sarasota Florida

"I purchased this pack for a late September Elk hunt in Colorado. Having read all I could on the packs offered by Cabelas and how you all like them led me to the purchase of this one.
To start with, the material looks and feels strong and weather/water resistant. ( I also waterproofed mine with astko water guard).
Lot's of compartments to put food , clothes , safety/survival gear and hunting gear.
Although this bag was set up for the rifle hunter, I'm a bowhunter, It was the biggest in storage ( 5300 cubic inches of room). I went with the frame pack just in case I'm fortunate enough to actually stick an Elk, but more because of the leverage and stability it gives you when your lugging all this stuff to your base camp.
I loaded this bag up with clothes and junk just to test it. 65 lbs of stuff felt very comfortable on my back . The suspension system incorporated into the pack allows you to really back it in if you must! I will be taking only the essentials @ no more then 45lbs. If your in good shape this bag feels great to tote around, even after a 10 mile walk which I use it for on my training days. I hope this helps , you will not be disappointed with this bag It has all you need."

VERY NICE EXTERNAL FRAME PACK, June 17, 2009

"Although not field tested yet, it seems very well made and designed, a superior product to my now retired Camp Trails Omega Pack which was a fine pack itself!"

One Great Pack, February 20, 2009
By ELKMADNESS from Black Hills of South Dakota

"I bought this pack for a western Montana elk hunt. I took my elk early in the morning and had all day to dress, quarter, debone, and pack out a mature bull. After doing all the work on the meat, I can honestly say it was a pleasure to start out with the first bags of meat. Once I loaded my pack and started up the trail I could not beleive how comfortable this pack was to carry on my back. From the first load to the fourth I had no discomfort from the pack or the properly lashed load on my back. Do your self and your body a favor and buy this for big game back country hunts. You won't regret it!"

    Big Pack, January 7, 2009
    By roper1975 from Milwaukie, OR

"When I ordered this pack, I didn't realize how much space 5500 cubic inches was. The pack came in two separate boxes, one for the frame and one for the pack. One of the nice options is that you can leave the frame behind if you so desire. Another nice feature of this pack is the hood. Living in the Pacific northwest, we get a lot of rain. The hood is not only easy to access and put away when you're done with it, but it will withstand the abuse that can come with the great outdoors."

    Comfortable, December 23, 2008
    By WIHunter1

"Even when loaded I found that this pack is comfortable. It is easily adjustable & has pleanty of pockets & compartments. Good quality. I was able to load all the supplies I needed to hike out to hunt for the day away from camp - including all of my warm clothes. I even strapped my blind to the frame. The external frame with the cargo shelf is great for that type of thing. The only thing that would make it better is if they would include some additional strapping & buckles for strapping extra things directly to the frame (outside of the pack)."

"Very well made product. Perfect for long hunting trips or to pack that goat or deer out of the woods. The only thing I didn't like was that it has way too many straps. Other than that the pack works great!!"

    Awesome, October 19, 2008
By Darren12 from British Columbia, Canada

"This was one of the first items I have purchased off the cabela's website. Fairly fast shipping I might add. My pack worked great on a successful elk and mule deer hunt here in British Columbia, Canada. Pack was everything I had asked for and then some. I was a little bit nervous about the material holding the pack to the frame, but after packing a quarter of an elk over 3 hours down a mountain, this pack has more than held its own. Making many of my fellow hunting partners jealous. This pack is awesome. Money well spent! Thank you Cabelas"

It does what I needed, September 29, 2008
    By PigeonStacker from Pacific Northwest

"I bought this pack and used it elk hunting. In 6 days, I covered almost 40 miles on foot. My back never got sore, and I never felt off balance. The water bladder was my favorite feature. As the sweat built up, the straps did start to squeek on the frame, so I had to so do some adjusting. The bag has a lot of perks. Sure, it could be better, but it was the best thing on the market that met my needs. Time will tell on this bag. I'm a little concerned about the plastic connections, but metal often squeeks too. All in all, it did the job. No major complaints."

    THEE pack, September 24, 2008
    By BIGAKSTUFF from wa

"Bought this pack to take with me on my two week moose hunt in Alaska. Could not have done what i did without it. First off, I got a moose the third day of hunting, a 59 inch bull, and if you know anyting about moose, you know that a hind quarter weighs about 170 lbs. Strapped it to the pack-frame and my body gave out before the pack-frame did. Hauled out an entire moose over two miles with this frame, and it still looks brand new. After the hunt, took a trip into the bush with fam and friends. The pack was big enough to house three sleeping bags, food for three, and dry clothes and supplies. The rain fly that comes out of the top completley covers the bag, which was a life saver because the bag and stuff inside was bone dry when we got to camp, even after it rained all day and we crossed a creek 5 times. The only things i did not like; the pack with frame is prettty heavy, 12lbs empty. i know the lighter pack is only $20 more, but how heavy duty is the frame? Also, the hydration bladder that came with it started leaking after only one use, I think it was bad stitching at the bottom of the bladder. Overall, I am extreamly happy with this pack/frame, and know it will last for years to come."

    Great buy, September 8, 2008
    By RPhunting from Newfoundland, Canada

"This packsack is durable and has great capacity. This is an extremely comfortable packsack with the heaviest weight capacity. the storage and compartments are so great, you will never have to worry about not having enough room to carry your gear. I would recommend this to anyone who is into a lot of hunting and walking in the woods. It also has a great rack for easily transporting your quarters of moose meat. absolutely the best packsack I've ever invested in."

    Great Pack, September 7, 2008
    By gunnyjoe from Gunnison, CO

"I bought this frame and pack in July 08, and was able to use it in the Pecos Wilderness on Labor Day. The Combo was great! The suspension on the frame was very comfortable, easily adjusted. The 5300 cubic inches of space was great. I packed every thing I needed for a four day trip. One of the only set backs is that there is so much space it was easy to overload. I look forward to using the frame during hunting season in Colorado."

we worked hard, August 27, 2008
By Omenicahunters from Fort st James, British Columbia Canada

"Myself, my nephew, and a first time hunter, went on an extreme goat hunt in B.C where we live. We climbed and walked and descended, for about 10 miles a day.We shot 2 beautiful billy's. The day we shot them we had a 6 mile pack back with approximately 85 lbs on our back each. The pack held up great, made packing all that weight a little more bearable before we loaded up camp and came back to the truck with about 105 lbs each. The pack was comfortable and breathed great on my back. This pack was made for the mountains with plenty of storage, and easy accessability. I'm a small framed man(160lbs) and it still fit me great!"

    Squeaks, July 30, 2008
By StriperAddict from California back packing deer hunter

"For carring the load and comfort is great but if you plan on hunting with it on think again. There is no sneaking up on anything while you are wearing this pack it squeaks on every move and I've tried everything to make it stop. I think I will try an internal frame next time."

over all good pack, July 21, 2008
    By guntroll from Colorado

"I have not used it in the field yet. Its still summer. But it seems well built. Sturdy construction and tough material. My complaint is that it seems to be a bit short in the internal and external pockets. There are a few but Not enough for the amount of space this pack takes up. But I'll make due and hopefully put it to some good use in C.O back-country this fall."

Sheep Hunting Pack and Frame, April 15, 2008
    By dogcat from Sooner Nation

"I am about to embark on a Dall Sheep hunt in Alaska. I have a lot of experience backpacking in mountains but never with the thought of carrying heavy loads out of the mountains. I have always used internal frame soft packs for week to 2 week trips.
For this trip I tested my usual pack (Kelty internal frame) and another internal frame pack (Eberstock Dragonfly) along with the Cabelas Alaskan Pack and frame. This is the first external frame pack I have tried since the 1960's (Boy Scouts). I am very pleased with fit and performance. I have worked out everyday with the pack loaded to 50lbs, hiking 2 to 5 miles for a total of 120 miles to date. I am very pleased and have selected this pack for my hunt. I like the external frame, the organizatioin of the pack, the rifle carrier and the ability to expand the frame to carry large loads. THe pack is very adjustable and fits my 6' 3" x 250lb frame well. I like the positions of the adjusting straps and the width of the waist belt. I especially like the rain cover that is integral to the pack. There is also a orange load cover to be used packing out large loads.
The back is well made, the frame is sturdy and can be broken down for airplane transport.
I like this pack and frame a lot."

    By AKTJW from Alaska

"I have used this pack for three years as an assistant guide, and I love it. I like the many compartments, rain fly, and the removable pack with pack straps. The only down sides to me are the weight, and the plastic clips on the freighter shelf, I have had them snap under a heavy load packing meat. Very comfortable under a load."
