LEATHER CHEEK PAD,
March 18, 2009
By BPSHOOTR
"SORRY BUT THIS IS THE MOST SUBSTANDARD ACCESSORY I HAVE EVER PURCHASED. THE QUALITY IS EXTREMELY POOR, THE RIVETS ARE VERY POOR QUALITY. CAME LOOSE FIRST TIME I TRIED TO LACE THE PAD DOWN.
VERY DISAPPOINTED"

Great idea, but,
March 17, 2009
By GAkidfrom Duluth, Georgia
"Purchased this to raise stock height for elevated scope mount. Threw away the silly flat ties and tried leather shoe laces. Still could not tighten securely. Went to military style shoe laces, they snugged up better but not tight. Seems to be quality material, however, I grew weary and returned it for credit"

Great - Once it's on.,
March 9, 2009
By DarrylTfrom California, CA
"The cheek pad works great once it's in place. PUTTING it in place is another story. The leather lacing it came with broke when I tried to draw it tight. Replaced the lace, and conditioned the leather, and it works fine."

Leather cheek pad,
February 23, 2009
By HRI57from British Columbia, Canada
"Cheek pad was very well made with good, strong leather. After all preparatory work was done, including replacement of the useless leather lacing with proper boot laces, fitting it to the rifle stock was easy and yielded a good looking and practical result. If it were not for the leather lacing, the cheek pad itself would merit a "5 out of 5" rating by itself."

Leather Cheek Pad,
February 18, 2009
By bwebchimneyfrom Providence, RI
"Unfortunately, this will not fit my M44 Mosin Nagant, or SKS. It's made well but the leather could be softer. It's better on a narrow butt end and w/ a bolt action it may be in the way. Overall it is made well and would never wear out on the right rifle."

Taking it outside!,

"Overall quite pleased with item. Grommet crimp at lace holes is pulling out in some places; a little redesigning in this area would go a long way toward making this a more rugged product, fit for out of doors use."

Two good things happened to two classics,
January 27, 2009
By jpoolfrom Florida
"I purchased two of the Cabelas leather cheekpads, the 1/4 inch rise and the 1/2 inch rise to accomplish similar but different effects on two firearms, The 1/4 inch rise worked quite well raising my eye sight line to the proper place for a recently scout scoped model 94 Winchester. The 1/2 inch cheek pad was offset to the left sufficiently to place my head and eye so it lines up with the side plate and offset scope mount on my model 71 Winchester. Both of these cheekpads have helped the real utility and desired function of both rifles without altering the classic value. I can still use the back up iron sights as well, but I have to cant my head for those now., or remove the pad (a simple operation)
The only con, and why I did not give the item 5 stars, was the leather lace was not very strong. I subsitutied a 54" boot lace for the lace and that worked much better. A 1/8 " round latigo lace should be considered to replace the leather lace by the retailer."

Cabela's Cheek Pad needs redesign,
December 1, 2008
By glaciermandocfrom Northwestern MI Outdoorsperson
"I have previously purchased this product and have successfully used it on countless hunting trips. It turned my Remington 742 into a tack-driver....allowing for a phenomenal cheekweld with the stock.
The current model offered by Cabela's is grossly different from the original and thus suffers greatly. The new model does not fit your stock intimately. Nor does it have the cheek pad sewn ontop of the stock sleeve. Rather, the new model leaves a gapping hole between itself and the stock, allowing it to snag on obstacles and collect dirt, brush, snow and debris. It sits off to the side, rather than being centered on the stock, as the "lift" material is sewn UNDER the leather sleeve, rather than be sewn ONTOP of the leather stock sleeve.
I am bewildered as to why, cost most likely, this design was ever adopted. It does elevate your cheek to allow for a better sight-picture, but I would not recommende this model. Cabela's should produce and sell the old style leather cheekpad that fits well, aligns well and functions well....all this with an adaptive fit."

Cabela's Leather Cheek Pad,
November 20, 2008
By JoeFlyrodfrom Harwinton, CT
"I purchased the 3/4" thick cheek pad to use on a Mossberg 500 slug gun. The pad was required because I had mounted a BSA green dot sight on this gun, and the height of the sight was such that without the pad, the only way to see through the sight was with my head lifted off the stock.
The addition of the pad allowed me to use the sight properly. In that regard it was fine. However, when tightening the lacing on the pad which secures it to the gunstock, about a third of the small, brass grommets pulled loose from their holes in the leather. I tried to re-seat them using a standard leather snap seating tool, but to no avail. The grommets need to be either a little larger, or thicker to function properly. Considering the cost of the pad, the grommets should be of higher quality."

Has potential,
September 27, 2008
By garmastersfrom Olathe, Kansas
"The leather is STIFF. The first thing I did was slather it in vaseline and put it in the oven on low to soften it up. Leather laces are no match for modern nylon laces. Mounted it with nylon laces and, like others, found the bolt wouldn't go back far enough. I cut the top sewn corner off, back about 3/4 inch. This allowed the bolt to go back enough to allow the ejector to work, but I couldn't remove the bolt - a necessity to clean the bore. I loosened the laces and slid it back about 1/2 inch. Now all is well. I put this on an FNH-PBR (model 70 Winchester)."

My Review,
July 26, 2008
By Anonymous Reviewerfrom bradford county PA
"The cheekrest would not work on my Parker Hale because the cheekrest interfered with the bolt. But I put it on my .22 and it works great.I think there should be a warning in the fine print about the product interfering with the action. Also my half inch model rose about an inch above the comb and the metal grommets tore out when I tightened the leather laces.I still think it is a decent product and it works good on my .22."

Very functional...,
July 21, 2008
By GreyBarkfrom the woods of Pa.
"Good product, padded well and fits great. Looks great and adds to the nostagic look on my Henry, and puts my eyes at the perfect level for scope use and in relation to my shoulder and rifle butt. The leather strap used to tie it up is too flimsy and tore when I was tightening it, luckily at the very end, even after I treated it with some quality oil. Get a good leather boot lace and use it instead, and you'll be happy."

To make it fit right,
May 17, 2008
By LouieLesfrom Hesperia, Calif.
"These pads are very stiff and the wide leather laces that come with them are worthless, at least for this job. Use narrow rawhide or rawhide looking shoe laces, the wide leather laces provided won't tighten completely without making you tear out the eyelets. Soak the whole thing in water, before starting and then begin to stitch it down, when it dries it conforms to the stock really good. A great way to get your eye to the level of the scope, where it should be!"

quality for the money,
April 8, 2008
By Anonymous Reviewerfrom Anoka, Mn.
"I found the fitting of the cheekpiece to my Enfield #4 a bit of a chore, but I got it on. The laces are too thin and broke as I laced up the piece. After finally getting the piece to fit, it began to slide forward under recoil. A brad at the rear of the cheekpiece solved the problem and everything is good to go."

cheak pad,
April 3, 2008
By skiffisher
"The cheak pad will not stay in position on the stock, it slides forward as the stock is tappered. The rivits fall out when you try to tighten the laces. It also draws the oil out of the wood.
The butt pad does not fit right and the leather does not match the cheak pad."

Cabela's Leather cheek pad,
April 1, 2008
By Quazarfrom Far west Texas, El Paso
"Good pad with limitations, leather shoe lace too thin breaks easily. Notice to bolt actions...front piece of pad may block full extraction stroke of bolt. Company needs to fix this problem...soon (cut and restitch front of pad so that the bump is gone)"

leather comb,
March 11, 2008
By kendrick
"poor grade leather and not enough thought given to stress points. the first string I tried to tie pulled the metal eyelet out and the rest did the same. when I tried to tie w/o the eyelets the leather ripped. I was not using significant pulling pressure. I feel the product would be better if the tie edges werereinforced or at least doubled over to prevent this. I am very dissatisfied and will not order products from cabellas again."
