CCI Shotshell Ammo for 38/357 revolver,
June 30, 2009
By DesertRat49

"I recently purchased this item to use when necessary for snakes and other small hard to hit pests. My area of the U.S. is currently experiencing a serious problem due to rabies infecting the wild animal population. Many of the infected animals are small, i.e. bobcats, skunks, foxes, etc. I'm not a great shot and for close range targets such as these small mammals I believe that I stand a better chance of hitting my target with CCI Shotshell ammo.
I have target fired the ammo and find it to be quite satisfactory. With my S&W model 620 (.357 magnum 4" barrel), at approximately 15 feet, the ammunition spreads a pattern about 1 foot in diameter. That is perfect for the circumstances that I envision.
I highly recommend this product."

First impression not good.,

"I purchased two packs of 10 shells to use in my M&P 40. The gun only has a couple hundred shots thru it as it is only a couple of months old. I took a full clip (10 shots) to the range with me to see how they cycle thru the gun.
I had three jams in those 10 shots and was disappointed in that. However the spread of the shots of the shells that did fire was even acorss the target at 20 feet.
My thought is that once the recoil spring in my M&P has a couple thousand shots thru it to loosen the spring a bit, the shells may cycle thru the unit better.
Physically the shells are 1.085 inches in length compared to the standard 1.130 for the S&W40....this may be a factor in the cycling of the load. This combined with the 115 grain load vs a 135-180 grain for other shells. I am not an expert by no means but I thing that the 115 grain load my not have enough force to cycle the slide....that just a guess.
I would recommend taking these loads to your range to make sure that they cycle thru a semi and not just assume they going to when you actually have to use them. I am going to try again with my M&P in a few months after I get a couple thousand more shots thru it."

Does what it is supposed to do,
November 2, 2008

"At 20 feet in a 4" barrel, one of these shells will spray a torso target with an even coating of pin pricks. At first I didn't think it hit since I couldn't see any difference or holes in the target. Close inspection showed an even distribution of tiny holes. It will certainly get attention or kill snakes, rats, and spiders without damaging much else."

"Just days after delivery and while big-game hunting with my nine-year-old son we encountered a rattlesnake here in Arizona. For general safety reasons the snake was dispatched with a headshot at a distance of 4 feet out of a Charter Arms Bulldog with a 3" barrel. A second shot was not necessary. Great ammo!"

"I really liked the idea of shooting a shot shell out of my pistol, and desided to try it out. Well, it shot; that's about it. The casing didn't eject all the way out, it got caught between the slide and the barrel. so I tried it again and the same thing happened. I will not recommend them to another person, and besides, it was over a dollar a shell!"

"I purchased these to carry in my XD .45 in case I see a snake camping or hunting. Much easier than carrying a shotgun around. Pretty tight little pattern from 7 yards. Would definately kill a snake from that distance. Cylces perfectly in my XD, but what doesn't!! Worth the money!!!"

GOOD FOR COPPERHEADS,

"I HAVE USED THIS FOR YEARS AND IT IS EXCELLENT FOR COPPERHEADS. I HAVE AN OLD MODEL SIG 220 AND IT CYCLES THIS JUST AS GOOD AS FMJ AMMO. UP TO 10 YARDS IT IS A ONE SHOT JOB. I WOULDN'T SHOOT IN A GLOCK AS THIS IS LEAD AND WILL BUILD UP IN YOUR BARREL, PER GLOCK.
GREAT FOR WHAT IT IS INTENDED TO DO....."

40 S&W shotshells,
October 10, 2007
By Woody23
|
"I bought these for use in a Ruger P94. While the pattern at 5-8 yards would be devastating to most critters, of the 4 shells I fired for pattern , all 4 failed to eject. I had just cleaned the weapon (including the extractor claw) so it wasn't that. I then compared the spent shotshell casing with a recently fired 180 grain casing and noticed the extraction groove in the 180 grain casing was slightly deeper than the shotshell. Maybe this was it. In the past I've had very good results from CCI ammunition, but not in this case. Good service from Cabelas at a reasonable price."
