Aluminum Boat Patch,
June 24, 2009
By Clutchdog

"Outstanding product. Easy to apply once you get the temperature right. I used it on a 1963 row boat and now have zero leaks. If you are going to primer, or paint over it, make sure you scuff up the surface pretty well with about an 80 grit paper."

Patched all the holes,
June 22, 2009
By SanDiegoKillerGriller

"I purchased the aluminum patch sticks from Cabelas.(the only place I could find them in small quantities). This product is made by 3M and is designed for a different application that being said it works great for aluminum repairs. I have tried different types of liquid epoxy , "aluminum welding" rods, solid aluminum epoxy and marinetex. In my opinion this product from 3M is better. I cannot say how it will last since it has only been 2 weeks since application but it seems quite durable and the adhesion is great. The only down side is the green color. 3M makes it in gray but I couldn't find it for purchase. All in all a very good product."

Excellent Patch!,
June 19, 2009

"This patch is even better than the reviews (I know, it is hard to imagine). I have an old jon boat that had approximately 15 leaks (maybe 15 gallons in five hours). I'm no handyman, but I could do it easily. I filled the boat with water to find the leaks, circled them with white chalk to mark them, drained the boat and let it dry, and then began patching. The directions (and reviews) give enough information to be done by anyone. Sand the area with sandpaper, or use a wire brush on a drill or dremel tool (my dremel tool and wire brush worked fast). Heat the metal with a torch (it takes at least 30 seconds to get the aluminum hot enough). Put on the patch as directed, and then heat the area gently to smooth out the patch, but don't burn it. I took the boat out that evening and it didn't leak a drop. Not one drop. I've gone out a number of times since and it still doesn't leak. Best product available, especially for the money. Don't waste your time with any other product."

Cabela's Aluminum Boat Patch works great!,
May 27, 2009
By RG62

"Our aluminum Jon boat had a 1" long crack in the side of the bow. I used a round wire brush on a drill to clean the aluminum. Heated the aluminum with a propane torch, opposite sides from applying the patch. Ten minutes total repair time, and has held for severel weeks at this point.
We have aluminum-welded prior cracks, and wish I had known about this stuff. Save time and money and buy this patch!"

"I couldn't believe how easy it was to apply the sealant to all the rivets in my 1968 aluminum boat. i followed all the directions and within 30 minutes i was done. I had had a lot of water seeping through the rivets before, but now the boat was completely dry. we will see how long it will last."

Aluminum Boat patch,
May 19, 2009
By CrutchCoR
from NC
|
"I had several leaks on my john boat. By several I mean 6 with two being small rips through the aluminum. This patch fixed them all. When I ordered this, I ordered two. Honestly a little goes a long way. I still have extra from the first kit.
The bad- Don't breathe this stuff in. Good way to die. When your melting something like this, just do it in ventilated areas and don't stand over top of it. So the bad would simply be common sense issues.
5 stars. Does what it says, works great, holds through abuse. It can patch, holes, scrapes, or rips that are rather large. One kit will last you."

Aluminum boat patch,
April 20, 2009
By webash
from Kirkland Lake, Ontario. Canada
|
"The boat patch material that I have purchased from Cabela's at least five times in the past twenty years, is the best product for aluminum repairs on the market. I have a forty year old spring-bok aluminum boat and go over beaver dams and rough portages. Your product is the only one that helps my boat to survive. I would recommend this material to every outdoor person. 5 stars and a big thank you from a happy customer."
