Don’t buy two decoys! Simply replace the tan fur of your existing Quiver Critter with this winter-white fur. It’s simple to change, and adds a new element to your existing decoy.
I really thought this thing would be a great "upgrade" my my Quiver Critter, until I got in my set.
Yes, I realize that it DOES look like a winter phase rabbit (or is it hares that change color?), but frankly, it blends into the snow too well to make an effective decoy.
A decoy should look natural, but should stand out well enough that it draws coyotes attention. They don't have to look super real to bring coyotes running, they just need to look like dinner, and need to be highly visible.
Ultimately, it looks great, but no, functionally, I don't think I'd recommend it, because I think the standard tan "rabbit" works very well, even in snow cover.
Maybe there's an area in the country where there would be NO brown rabbits in the winter, and only white ones, so maybe it makes sense in that area, but for me, it just blended into the snow too much. Coyotes spot the Quiver Critter in the grass or over the snow very easy, but I never saw a dog bat an eye at the white one. Next winter I'm going to try dying the entire ears black, and seeing if that helps draw their attention, but until then, I'm doing just fine with a normal brown decoy.
