I expected a lot more from Knight & Hale's reputation. The call looks cool, definitely different than the rest of the calls out there, but it's certainly lacking performance-wise.
The call takes a TON of air, and unless you're playing REALLY loud, it just sounds like plastic, and has a strange "kazoo" sound quality.
After reading the other review (shout out to another Kansas Coyote Caller!!) on here, I'm not surprised to hear that the call broke. The mouthpiece seems really brittle. Coyote calls should be hearty and durable, this call just isn't it.
I've been calling coyotes for over 20yrs, and using Knight & Hale predator calls for over 15yrs, so when I saw the new line-up of K&H translucent body calls, I was excited to try them out.
Ultimately, I was disappointed by all 3 of the new calls, the Ultimate Predator I, Cottontail, and Jackrabbit. The Jackrabbit is the best of the 3 for quality, but it's far from what I'd call "good".
The Jackrabbit is the best of the 3, even though it sounds more like a cottontail distress call, not a jackrabbit distress call. It works well enough as a Cottontail call, but it's not my first choice for the job.
This call has good volume, but it's VERY breathy, so it takes a ton of air to get that volume compared to other calls. I was disappointed in the durability of the call, because I found mine broken in the bottom of my pack after my 2nd hunting trip #had to get a new one#. The "acrylic" mouthpiece should be thicker to prevent breaking.
Again, it's NOT a jackrabbit call, it's a higher cottontail pitch, and has very little rasp.
Ultimately, I'm not sad I own this call, but I'm far from impressed, and I wouldn't recommend it to other hunters, unless they were just looking for a different sound to compliment their existing call colection.
