Nauticus Smart Tabs™ – ProTroller Series

  • Automatically adjusts to water conditions
  • No expensive electric or hydraulic hardware
  • Constantly reacts to conditions, speed and balance
  • No other plaining device should be used with Smart Tabs
The ProTroller Series lets you use Smart Tabs as both trim stabilizers and trolling brakes. By simply moving a lever up and down, you turn the Smart Tabs into the most effective trolling brakes on the market. With the lever in the down position, the plates drop down to create equal braking on both sides of the boat so you track straight, even at ultralow speeds. Plus, you maintain steering control because the propeller is not restricted.
Available: ProTroller Series.

Money Well Spent
Date:
Installed these on a heavy 1990s Celebrity 18-1/2 foot bowrider with a 5.7L Merc Alpha 1. Previously, the boat was very slow to plane, almost too slow to do anything but tube behind it, even pitched down to 15". These tabs completely changed how this boat performs. It now planes out in what feels like half the distance and time, easily pulls a slalom skier up from a deepwater start. I don't notice much difference in top end, but it does require less trim from the drive and is much more stable, almost no porpoising at all.
I was a bit skeptical as well about the nylon bolts and nuts that hold it all together, but so far this summer, none of them have come loose or show any signs of wear. They'll be easy to replace should the need arise. The instructions could be a bit more robust in terms of adjustment, but the installation itself took less than 30 minutes.
Compared to the cost and installation complexity of electro-hydraulic tabs, these tabs were very well worth their relatively minimal cost.

More than I could have hoped for
Date:
I have a Lowe Angler 140, that was originally a tiller steer. It would get up to about 20 knots (GPS) but porpoised horribly. So I had to keep it to about 14-15. The bow would still ride high, even with the motor trimmed all the way under.
I decided to convert the boat and motor to remote steering. This project only added about 35 lbs. to the boat, but even though I liked the steering vs. tiller, now I could never get up on plane and top end was about 8-9 knots. Nose still way up. I was preparing to move the trolling battery to a front compartment, but wasn\u2019t looking forward to the work. I decided to try Smart Tabs SX. I got the SX9510-30BL. Easy to install. I used the middle hole. I went right over to the lake to test.
Nose stayed down thru hole shot, the boat got up to 23.9 knots and was amazed! I actually gained on the top end. I would have been happy with 16-17 as long as the nose stayed down and I could see where I was going. I might even have a little more top end speed but realized I was speeding on our lake (20 mph) .
I haven\u2019t ever enjoyed this boat as much as I do now with the Smart Tabs. Thanks for the great product.

Smart Tabs

Insatalled them on my 1989 Stingray Cuddy WHAT a Difference the boat topped out with better speed and handling was definately greatly improved. Why don't the manufactures just install these on the boat at the factory.
