Colorado XT

This is one of the best boats I ever bought an I bought many. I did a float trip down the Susquehanna in Marys ville and the pontoon handle Great. Not only that but the company stands by it pontoon they are Great , If I would have know about the Colorado XT I would have never had a Kayak. I am a 6' 7" 51of age man and I love it. If you are in the market to buy a one man craft then this my friend is what you should buy.

Tough Little Raft

The CA Colorado XT pontoon boat exceeded my expectations on a recent float of the Grande Ronde River while steelhead fishing. The river was running at low flow (650 fps at Troy) and we bumped many rocks and dragged the two boats over many shallow rocky areas. We thought the tubes would show many nicks, scratches, or cuts and were surprised to find no damage at all. The class II and III rapids (including The Narrows) were all handled well with this boat. We had about 260 pounds of fisherman and gear on each boat and I recommend you do not exceed this by too much if you are going to be on a challenging river. This is a small boat and does a good job, but don't over load it if you need to move quickly.

Overall Great Boat!
Date:
I did a lot of research before buying this boat and I found reviews on the few sites that were helpful but no one really explained much about the boat itself. First off received the boat via UPS and took me just under 2 hours to put everything together. While putting it together I found installing the basket was a little tight, actually took a small dead blow hammer to finally get it to go together correctly. The pontoons inflated very quickly with the aid of a little air mattress pump. Got it out on the water this morning and lo and behold on the way there I lost one of the dang oars! This being the case my first day out wasn't exactly a ton of fun, but it was still a good few hours out. I left the house with the pontoons slightly less than full. As the manufacturer states the pontoons are effected by hot and cold air (much like tires on a vehicle) but it was more than I expected. So if you're going out on a normal Texas 100 degree day then fill them up about 85% and you'll be good. I read many reviews about the seams busting on the pontoons and I imagine this is the reason why, because warm weather has a very profound effect on the air expanding in the pontoons. Getting the boat into the bed of an F250 was less than glorious doing it alone but it was possible and after a couple of times you get the hang of it and it gets to where it's not too bad at all. The wheel that came with the boat has a very curved tread, and given the width of the boat gives it a very bad "wheel barrow" feel except it's tougher to manage. 2 wheels from the manufacturer instead of one would be much better, or at least a tire with a more flattened tread. Paddling with one paddle was not difficult but very slow going. Paddling from the sides makes the boat turn too much so you actually do better in between the foot rests. The boat was very light on the water and even the slightest wind will turn your boat around from the direction you want to be. A wise decision may be to get a 2nd anchor for the front to keep the boat from twisting around in the wind. The anchor set up that came with the boat was not bad but with any weight in the bag is very difficult to pull up, and I worry that over time the friction of the rope against the plastic may end up eating it away and I'll have to order a spare from CA. The boat has a TON of storage space! Literally to the point that my fishing gear only took up about half of one of the removable gear bags. The rod holder was nothing amazing but was sufficient and it works so what more could you want? The seat could have had a little higher back on it but was very comfortable, 4 hours in the water and I was perfectly fine. Overall the boat was easy to put together, came in a timely manner, and performed great (I'm sure it would have been 10 times better if the dummy who bought it didn't lose one of the oars!), and didn't give me much trouble at all. The fact that the boat has a motor mount is great and I've got a trolling motor on the way for it. With a battery on the back you may do better leaving the battery off the rack until you get it in the water for the sake of balancing the boat. For those of you in states requiring registration for boats with any type of motor, do not worry the boat actually does have a hull number, and comes with a manufacturers certificate of origin for obtaining a title and registration of the boat. Had a blast with it and hopefully this review is helpful, although long-winded, to those of you interested in purchasing this boat.

More than I expected.
Date:
When I first assembled the boat there was an air leak in the left pontoon, it turned out to be a defective bladder. I contacted Classic Accessories and within a few days I received a replacement, which is remarkable considering I live in Bella Coola BC which is a remote area 300 miles from the nearest traffic light. I am very pleased with the boat it was easy to put together and it works great definitely five star both the boat and the service from Classic Accessories
