good for what they're designed for
Date:
These pliers are really very small. They're suitable mainly for kids' hands, aren't really good for large fish or large hooks. I don't know how to put that in the advertising without it coming across negative, but maybe something like "perfectly suited for freshwater or the saltwater minimalist". I'll be returning these for the longer Dr Slick's. Don't get me wrong, these are beautifully made, but they're easily the smallest fishing pliers I've ever seen.

lanyard gets in the way
Date:
These are nicely made pliers but I am not a fan of this cord lanyard set-up. The chance of dropping them in the river is greater... it would be nicer if they came with a phone cord style lanyard like my Abel pliers came with, but for the money... these Dr. Slick ones are a real bargain! I bought these for my son and I have another pair on my drift boat.

Great quality but small
Date:
I recently moved to where I can do saltwater fishing and needed a pair of stainless pliers. I thought these would do the trick. Be warned that they are SMALL! My hands are average to large in size but thin and these pliers get lost in my hand. I wanted them for dealing with toothy fish and badly embedded hooks. Your hand would be in the mouth of the blue fish, pike, musky, etc. defeating the purpose of having pliers. They are more suited for smaller hands, smaller fish (e.g. fly fishing for ~2 lb. brook or rainbow trout, not 10+ lb. fish with teeth that will lay you open) or very dainty, delicate work. The quality and finish is excellent, just not as big/long as I thought they were going to be. Cabelas needs to put a length dimension on the product description page. I will be returning them for something larger.

Classy Fishing Pliers
Date:
Highly recommended if pricy. I found these to be the best pliers I have personally used for stream trout fishing. Good fit and finish, and I find the black version to be particularly attractive. One warning... too heavy for use with retractible tool holders, plan on pouch/pocket storage.
