1858 Rem. .36 Army Police - Woo Hoo!
Date:
First fired my Dad's 1861 Navy back in the 60's as a kid, but was never as enthusiastic about it as I am the Remington today. Fit & finish is superb. Action is smooth. Clean-up is a snap with hot soapy water & dry with WD-40. Everything but the grips go into the kitchen sink. Be sure to get a properly fitting nipple wrench & just lube them lightly with bullet lube before reinstalling after cleaning. A properly fit screwdriver set makes maintenance a snap, too.
I cast my own .375" soft lead round balls & make my own tallow, crisco & beeswax bullet lube.
Remington #10 caps work flawlessly. Over 250 rounds fired & so far, not a single cap malfunction, fall off or jam into the revolver innards. A 23 gr. BP equivalent by volume charge from my cylindrical flask of Pyrodex works better than lighter charges & actually seems to foul less than with lighter loads. I use either felt wad, or greased paper wads over the powder, then seat the bullets - less messy than gooping lube over the seated ball. Real black powder works great, but Pyrodex 3F is great - better groups than 777 & more economical.
Best groups, so far, at 50' have been all within a 1- 1/2" spread.

A Fine Revolver
Date:
This is my fourth Remington revolver. I wanted a Remmie in .36 cal to go with my 51 Navy Colt in .36 cal. The Remington NA Police in .36 cal is a well made hefty revolver. Everything about this revolver fits like it should. Has a good feel in your hand. Shoots like a dream little filing on the front site will bring the POI up to the POA. Great revolver to use it's easy on powder and there is no recoil to speak of. Cabelas still has fast shipping and nice people to take your order. Stop reading pick up the phone and order yours. You'll love it.

One Of The Best Cap-N-Ball Revolvers!
Date:
The workmanship on this black powder revolver is excellent. The action is smooth and crisp with no play in the trigger. The metal the gun is made from seems to be very high quality which should last a lifetime. It feels good in my hand and the point of aim is right on at 15 yards with standard .36 caliber balls.

1858 Remington .36 cal belt pistol
Date:
I have and have had several Piettas, including the Remington models. All have been great guns save for this one. Within 30 shots the loading lever arm pivot pin and arm broke clean through. I might have just got a flawed one that snuck through, but definitely worth noting. Otherwise, the gun was an excellent shooter. Point of aim a bit low. Should file sight down about 1/16 to 1/8". Use about 20-25 gr with 375 ball. Gives a nice stecatto crack when fired and has noticeably more punch than the Colt 36's.
I have a loading stand, but I should be able to use the loading lever without fear of it snapping off inside. Hopefully my replacement will be as faithfull as my others.
