The Remington Model 1858 with its solid top strap was one of the most powerful and rugged performers of its day. Easily removable/replaceable cylinders made reloading extremely fast. These highly realistic reproductions include polished brass trigger guard, and walnut grips. Barrel length: 8". Overall length: 14". Weight: 2 lbs., 11 oz.
If you are considering a BP revolver, this is the one! I bought the 7.5 inch barrel with steel frame model. Workmanship was great, finish was as well. I have fired it and everything is as it should be. Money well spent! Get one and have some fun!
The last Pietta New Army I purchased in 1998 had some serious issues in fit and function. This 2010 version is a 100% improvement and functioned flawlessly right out of the box. A well-made black powder firearm and good value for the money.
I have been shooting for many years but never fired a Black powder rifle or handgun. I saw a friends 1858 Remington , liked it, and ordered one from Cabela's. It is, to say the least, a blast! Fun shooting and even a certain satisfaction from cleaning it. I am also a Civil War historian, so i also ordered an 1858 with a brass frame. (Had to have a Confederate one also). I have yet to shoot the brass 1858 and might just keep it to look at. It is a good looking, well made revolver as is the steel frame .Fit and finish are excellent on both. I found the steel frame easy to load and as accurate as the shooter. I am very happy with these two revolvers from Cabela's. They are a pleasure to deal with.
Seems to be some inconsistency in the quality of these revolvers from good to perfect. Mine has a few spots of finish damage and the cylinder seems difficult to position in the frame. Otherwise, it is a good deal for the sale price paid and I am looking forward to purchasing a conversion cylinder to fire modern cartridges.
